Type of bird in title, features Maker's Mark *Solved* [s]

I am usually good at this, because I worked in a bookstore for years.

My friend read this book about 9 years ago. A guy wakes up in a dream world. He drinks makers mark, and she thinks the title includes a type of bird.

Any help is appreciated.

My crazy friend figured out it was the Wind up bird Chronicle. The drink was Cutty Sark, go figure.

Oh. I read that and had no memory of Cutty Sark (or Maker's Mark)...oh well. Now if you had mentioned (view spoiler)[a dude being skinned (hide spoiler)], yes, that I remember.
