Rules are simple. Using the word GAEAF or the bolded words of your select holidays, pick a book title or author (first or last name) that begins with the letters in the chosen season/holiday. Disregard a, an, the, etc. Books must be started and finished within the season duration.
Choose your own difficulty!

Year long challenge: Your Favorite BDB couple
In this challenge, you’re required to read 52 books (one book for each week of the year). You’re allowed to read more books if you want.
The challenge is:
Read books that spell out:
THE BEST COUPLE OF THE BDB SERIES WILL ALWAYS BE [CHARACTER 1] AND [CHARACTER 2]!
That sentence plus the name of the characters would make at least 52 characters. Please use the exclamation point ! as a wildcard or jolly character for couples whose combined names are less than 10 characters (like Wrath and Beth, or Rhage and Mary, unless you want to use the full names Elizabeth or Mary Madonna). If your favorite couple is JM and Xhex, for example you can either use John Matthew and Xhex or Xhexania and JM.
For each letter you need to find:
- a book with a title that starts with this letter (disregarding all the articles: a, an, the... )
- or a book by an author whose first or last name starts with this letter
- or a book with a character whose first or last name starts with this letter
- for the jolly character, you can use any book you like
Challenge Duration: January 1 – December 31, 2014.
Lists can be posted anytime in between (fill out as you go along).
Changes are allowed (in category and chosen names).
Rereads are allowed.
Cross picks from/for other challenges are allowed.
All genres are allowed.

We’re starting a new year, so we’re going to try a new format for our quarterly challenge. You may still choose to read as many or as few categories as you like.
◆As always, all formats are accepted (print, ebook, audio) and rereads are fine as long as you read the entire book and not just skim it.
◆Any genre is acceptable unless specifically stated otherwise.
◆You can change your list or level at any time or just make it up as you go along.
This challenge is based on a list of Popular New Year’s Resolutions from http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/New...
New Year’s Resolution Challenge
Jan 1, 2014 to Mar 31, 2014
Levels
Easy: 1- 4 books
Medium: 5 – 8 books
Hard: 9-12 books
Extreme: All 13 books
1. Lose Weight: Read a novella or any book less that 200 pages.
2. Volunteer to Help Others: Read a book in which one character saves another’s life or saves their town or the world from disaster.
3. Quite Smoking: Read a book with ‘smoke’, ‘fire’, or ‘flame’ (or any variation of those words) in the title OR a picture of smoke or fire on the cover.
4. Get a Better Education: Read a non-fiction book OR a YA books that includes at least a few scenes in a school setting (any kind of school will do)
5. Get a Better Job: Read a book in which a character changes professions OR read a new-to-you series by an author you’ve already read. (For example, if you’ve already read Diana Rowland’s Kara Gillian series, here’s an opportunity to give her White Trash Zombie series a try.)
6. Save Money: Read a book with a character who is rich or one who is struggling to make ends meet.
7. Get Fit: Werewolves and shifters always seem to be in great shape, so read a book featuring weres or shifters of some type. Or you could read a book with a very fit character on the cover ; )
8. Eat Healthy Food: Read a book featuring any type of creature that feeds off of humans. Not just vampires sucking blood, but also those that feed on emotions or dreams, through sex, or any other means of sucking life energy from humans
9. Manage Stress: Read any book that makes you happy!
10. Manage Debt: Read a book you already own.
11. Take a Trip: Read a book in which the main character(s) go on vacation or have to travel for any reason
12. Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle: Read a book you already own, a book borrowed from the library, or reread an old favorite
13. Drink Less Alcohol: But read more books! Read a book by a new to you author.
You may join the challenge up to the final day of March. If you get a late start it’s fine to back date with any books you started on January 1 or later.
When you've completed a book for the challenge, please come back to this thread and post a NEW comment with something like this:
2/9 completed
along with your updated list.

A (hopefully) simple yearly challenge, with two different levels. Fill in each letter of the alphabet using the first letter of the first word in the title of a book or the first letter of the author’s first OR last name. For an extra challenge, fill the alphabet in twice: one time using book titles and a second time using author’s names.
A few simple rules:
Please disregard the words A, An, and The as the first word in book titles.
Each book can be used for only one letter. If you use the book title you may not also use the authors name for another letter.
You may use the same author’s name multiple times if you read multiple books by the same author.
For the letter X, I will accept that letter anywhere in the title or author’s name, not just as the first letter. (For example, author Ja x Garren, and title ‘E x treme Measures’
Any genre is allowed, not just UF.
Duration of challenge: January 1 – December 31, 2014
Examples:
Level I – 26 books

◆Creatures do not have to be the main character, simply play some role in the story.
◆Each book may be used only once. If multiple creatures are present, you have to decide which category to place it under (but you can always change it later).
◆You may change your list at any time.

Option E--Dangerous Hero Scale :
Instructions:
Rank the heroes from ten books with dangerous heroes that you read in 2014 from 1-10 according to their dangerous hero quotient.
Dangerous Hero Quotient Key:
10: Completely lethal, seemingly remorseless, has no problem killing to get the job done, or killing as the job. Killing someone doesn't phase him. It's either him or them and don't let someone be after someone he loves. More or less amoral-except when it comes to things that have true value to him (like his heroine or his family). The mission is all that matters to him (at least until he falls for his heroine).
9: Not the guy to mess with. He has few boundaries he won't cross.
8: He can be ruthless. Not above doing almost anything for self-promotion. Has and will betray those close to him if needed. He has a code, but it's his own code--not necessarily in line with established laws, rules, or mores.
7: Most people would probably consider him insane or crazy, or just kinda whacked in the head. A scary guy.
6: Ruthless to get the job done, or to get what he wants/needs/or to protect others.
5: A hero who still has the aura of a bad boy, but is more laid back and open and not necessarily quite as ruthless. Any hero who has stalkerific tendencies is automatically a 5. He's not the type that is completely unpredictable.
4: He has shown that those who mistake him for a ordinary, nice guy are wrong. He'll surprise you!
3: He will do 'bad' things for reasons he feels is necessary, and not feel too much regret about it. He has no problem claiming, kidnapping, or taking his heroine when the situation calls for it.
2: Slightly more volatile than a 1. Most of the time he is very well behaved, you just don't want to get him riled up!
1: Mild-mannered most of the time, but when his fuse gets lit, watch out. He becomes the most dangerous man in the room.

YAY. Summer! Sun. Beach. Heat. Roasty.
Unless you're at the bottom of the world, where it's quite a bit nippy, I hear.
Welcome to the READ THE SEASON SUMMER CHALLENGE!!
Read-the-Season Challenge follows the same format as our popular Read-the-Month Challenge, except that you have a whole season to finish your books.
To make it more interesting, we will be using different languages each year for our Read-the-Season and Read-the-Month challenges. For 2014, we will be using Welsh. Also, for 2014, we have a new twist for the Read the Season Challenge! Not only can you read the seasons, but we're adding seasonal holidays (or significant days) to the mix!
So, here is the timeline:
Y GAEAF (Winter) - December 21, 2013 - March 19, 2014
Y GWANWYN (Spring) - March 20, 2014 - June 20, 2014
Yr HAF (Summer) - June 21, 2014 - September 22, 2014
Yr HYDREF (Autumn) - September 23, 2014 - December 20, 2014
Summer holidays: (a bit scarce in the summertime, so we're going with Saint/church days)
Summer Solstice: Alban HEFIN
St. Bartholomew's Day (Aug 24): BARTHOLOMEUS
St. Doewan's Day (Jul 13): DDOEWAN
St. James's Day (Jul 25): IAGO
St. Laurence's Day (Aug 10): LAWRENS
Festival of the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus (Jul 27): y SAITH GYSGADUR
READ-THE-SEASON SUMMER CHALLENGE:
Duration: June 21, 2014 - September 22, 2014
Rules are simple.
1. Using the word HAF or the bolded words of your select holidays, pick a book title or author (first or last name) that begins with the letters in the chosen season/holiday. Disregard a, an, the, etc.
2. Books must be started and finished within the season duration. You can start the challenge anytime within the season. You can also backdate books read within the season.
3. Upgrading levels is fine, especially if you become super active! (just not downgrading - it's a challenge, right?)
Choose your own difficulty!
Level 1 - read the season
Level 2 - read the season and 1 holiday
