message 1: by Ulrik (new)

Ulrik Nielsen | 40 comments Every time I try to edit errors or add missing information to an existing book, I get this message: "Your permissions will only allow the editing of the metadata". I don't like this message. It's too bad, because I have spotted plenty of errors I could have rectified.

If I try to combine editions, I am told: "Only Goodreads librarians can do this". I knew that. So why can't I do it? I am a librarian. I can't add new editions either. Whenever I try, they appear on their own.

Do I need some special permit to do these things, or is my account just not working properly?

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Your profile shows you as a "top librarian" for your country. That's based on things like books added if I remember correctly. It's just a list/ranking like "top reviewer" list.

To become a "Goodreads Librarian" you need to apply at https://www.goodreads.com/about/apply... (to be approved, you'll be expected to first learn the Librarian Manual ).

Nucking Futs the Fire Fairy Book-a-holic (firefairyholic) | 348 comments All GR members can add book entries and it's counted on book edits, right? So even if you're not a librarian you can still be included in the rankings if your number of edits can reach it.

Plethora (bookworm_r) | 359 comments You haven't applied and been accepted as a Librarian. Under your profile picture it would say "Goodreads librarian" if you were indeed a librarian.

The ability to add books does not require a person to be a Goodreads librarian. Any books you add that "show up on their own" is normal behavior. You would need to post in the Librarian Group to have them combined. Even when a Librarian creates a new edition the additional combine step is required.

Ulrik Nielsen | 40 comments Hm. I have applied a couple of times and figured I had been accepted when I appeared on the list of 'top librarians', but I guess it won't hurt to try again.

Carolyn (seeford) | 573 comments Ok, just looked at your profile and it says that you are a GR Librarian, under your photo. Congrats & welcome to the ranks! Have fun making edits!

Eduardo Da Silva (eduardojesli) | 2 comments I've asked to be a top librarian. How long time I must wait, to be accepted?

message 9: by Ulrik (new)

Ulrik Nielsen | 40 comments I think it took about a month from when I sent my first request, but that may vary.

Eduardo Da Silva (eduardojesli) | 2 comments Hm. Thanks Ulrik. So, I have to wait!

Sarah - All The Book Blog Names Are Taken (sarahbear8301) | 35 comments Not all applications are accepted. Mine took a couple weeks. You won't be informed if you are denied. Go back to the application page again. If you can't reapply, your request is still pending. If you can reapply, your previous request was denied.

message 12: by Charlie (new)

Charlie | 7 comments what can you do to not get denied? : {
like how do you prove that you know the librarian manual / or know to look up everything in it before posting things up or editing, so you can get the permit to finally edit already added books that doesn't have proper resumes for example.

message 13: by Ulrik (new)

Ulrik Nielsen | 40 comments Just add some book editions you have read that aren't already there without making too many mistakes, I guess. There aren't any secret handshakes as far as I know.

You can say this in your application. Also knowing languages besides English helps.

message 16: by Ulrik (new)

Ulrik Nielsen | 40 comments If you have tried for a long time, try asking someone in administration. I did. Don't know if it sped things up, but I got my pass eventually. It didn't take a year.

message 17: by Ulrik (new)

Ulrik Nielsen | 40 comments Actually I didn't ask someone specifically, I just posted this message.

haha! okay I see .. I just send them my application *sweats*... I properly sounded too desperate... oh well - I was like heck, I better just go all in... but what lethe said also really makes me feel much more assured and like I might be able to succeed this time... maybe what I wrote just wasn't a long enough a plee in English for them to accept me the other times... I sure did make a long plee this time *I feel like a giant embarresment right now haha... I'll probably try writing an administator like you said if they don't accept me this time either... thank you both of you a lot!!:D

Lucas Bomfim (bomfim_00) | 3 comments Feels like it has been months since I got approved in the librarian quiz, but it's still pending, so I can't even apply again. Don't wanna sound desperate or angry, but eh, studying for the librarian test wasn't as easy as one might expect.

I feel like I could give some real contribution to this site.

Librarians are not staff and have no say in the approval procedure, so it's no use complaining here.
