message 262: by Amy J. (new)

Amy J. | 349 comments I finished my first pick The Bride by Julie Garwood

I wasn't sure I'd enjoy this book when it was first recommended to me. I some times get tired annoyed by the romance genre's (historical has a habit of doing this, but at least in their case it historically accurate) emphasis on the virginity of the heroine. And I'll admit there were times I was annoyed by that theme in this book, but overall it was a very enjoyable read. I read most of it in one day. And I'm anxious to see where the rest of the series goes, so I guess that means I'll give it 5 stars.

Dark Horse - OH MY GOD LOVE LOVE LOVE!!! Soooo good. My full review is here. I cried buckets.

Acquainted with the Night - I didn't love this one. I see why people could be so entranced with it, but overall it was just ok for me. Here's my full review with the explanation of what bugged me. :)

But thank you for my great picks so far! I'm glad I read them both. Will update more as I get to them. :)

~KarenH~ | 11348 comments Hi Gea! I finished my first pick yesterday - Sugar Creek. I liked it a lot, although not as much as the first book in the series. It really sucked me in to continue the series though...I'm going to have to keep it in mind when I'm planning out my challenges! I started my second pick, After the Storm, and I'm about halfway through it - so far it's a winner, too! Thanks for the great picks!

I'm so glad you enjoyed it. To be honest, it's been in my TBR for months but I haven't read it - I started buying the series because I've heard so many good things about the series and the author but now hearing how much you liked it... I think I need to get started on it now!!!

message 282: by Amy J. (new)

Amy J. | 349 comments Ashley,

I finished my second book The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen . Another 5 star read for me already this year. The more I read of Sarah Addison Allen the more I love her. I love every book of hers that I've read. Thanks for the recommendation.

message 283: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments I finished another pick, Vilda. I read Bayou Moon and, of course, I loved it! Ilona Andrews always delivers.

I'll try to get to a couple more picks later in the month.

message 284: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31599 comments Sassafrass, I finally got to one of my picks - the beginning of this month has been pretty slow for me in the reading department. I read Small Town Siren and really enjoyed it! I've been wanting to read this forever and I am so glad you gave me the push - both here and in the Meet & Greet! You were right, I was not disappointed!!

I really hope to get to a couple more of the picks because they look awesome, but I need to get through a few more for other challenges first. If you want to do either Double Full or Swan and the Bear buddy reads, let me know and we can set up a time!

I finished After the Storm yesterday, and I really liked it a lot. After reading a bunch of the 1 star reviews out there for it, I can understand where the people who hated it are coming from - fortunately I don't have the same issues with it that they seem to! Thanks for the great recommendations, Gea! I hope to get through at least one more before the end of the month, and with a little luck maybe even more than that!

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) Becca, I finished Tempest Rising last night. Was annoyed with Tempest for most of it, but the ending had me tearing up a bit, so I'm giving it a 2 star rating. Am currently reading It Had to Be You, and am enjoying it a bit better.

I started For the Love of Pete by Julia Harper last night and am having fun with it so far. I've been looking but only see one other contemporary by Julia Harper, though I have read one of her Elizabeth Hoyt historicals.

message 298: by ⚜️XAR (new)

⚜️XAR the Bookwyrm (xar-the-bookwyrm) I finished It Had to Be You today before my son's Head Start Home Visit. I'm rating it 2 stars, but it was really a 2.5 star read for me. It did come across very dated, but it also annoyed me and dragged in spots. Most of the action occurred in the latter third of the book, and I really didn't enjoy the build up to it. I've got Pleasure Unbound up next, and it seems interesting from the front cover excerpt!
