I normally don't love NR books either. But Eve and Roarke felt like just sex not love---and insta-lust.
I dont buy them together. but I quit the series after 2 books too

message 502: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) No love? How many have you read? It's all about love. They just happen to have really good sex, too!

I didn't "feel" their love. I didn't believe it.
But I liked her outside of him....

Maybe in a year, i will revisit audiobooks 1&2. I will give my mind a year to purge my distaste so I may begin anew

message 504: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I just don't see it... Roarke is crazy about her... she is crazy about him! I would highly suggest it. But, that being said, I would also say that maybe it's a personality thing. I have a hard time with NR books they always seem so pale and I am ADDICTED to the In Death books. I'm sure the opposite happens too.

It's just that there are so many time while reading the books (well, listening, the audiobooks are SO well done by Susan Ericksen) where my heart contracts at things they do.

I don't love Susan Ericksen, she's alright, but I want to marry Rosalyn Landor. Definite Baby mama material right there

message 506: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) Yes, I've loved Rosalyn. I've never heard Susan do anything but In Death. But she makes them come alive! Another good narrator is James Marsters doing The Dresden Files.

Also, I have a great copy of Alan Cumming & Tim Curry doing Dracula!

message 507: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments I know what you mean about the In Death series, Ezi. As much as I love the series, it doesn't really take off until about #4, IMHO. I've heard Susan Ericksen narrate other books, and I like her, but - to me - she was born to narrate the In Death series. She really comes alive in those books.

message 508: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) These comments really amaze me. I wonder if you have to have a special gene for the In Death series.

My favorite two books are #1 and #2.

I respect that we're all different but sometimes it's - I don't know - a culture shock to know you just LOVED a book and someone else goes "meh".

I really love Margaret Atwood and think The Handmaid's Tale is one of the greatest works of literature and am constantly amazed when someone condemns it.

Oh, well. That's just me. It'd be boring if we were all the same. Right?

It certainly would! LOL!

BTW, don't misunderstand me - the In Death series is one of my favs.

I have listened to 3 historical books narrated by her .She does a great job. Not even once I thought this sounds like Eve and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to buy her as another character after listening to her narrating 40 books as Eve and Roarke !

Yup. I checked out #1 a year or two ago from the audio library and I was shocked someone else narrated it. It was good, but it wasn't SE.

ShoSho (shoshost) | 12263 comments Did you know that she started narrating the books with either #13 or #14 and then went back and started narrating them from #1?

That 1st book is not as good as the others . Peabody's and Eve's voices are exactly the same!

message 517: by Lisa Kay, Moderator (new)

Lisa Kay (lisakayalicemaria) | 20787 comments Nope. I didn't know that.

Kirsten (kmcripn) Started reading the Marriage Mart series by Amanda Forester. Very entertaining. I always liked the Regencies that include some good old spies for the Crown against that rotter Napoleon!

Have you read the Finishing School series? YA prequels set in the same world. I'm not the biggest YA reader but they are such fun. This made me check and I just found out that book 3 is due out next month.

Also, love the covers!

Next up is Enslaved (Eternal Guardians, #5) by Elisabeth Naughton I think.
