Andrews, Ilona; Magic Rises (Kate Daniels #6); "Informal Buddy Read" ; Start Date: March 09, 2014 **REVISIT** TBC June 2018

That's the same thing I was thinking. I never pictured that model as looking like Kate. Now I feel like I don't know how she looks.

I agree. There is a note i.n the acknowledgments in my copy saying the reading the short story first is a good idea.
This one is going to be intense, isn't it?

Where are you at? I do not dare look at the spoiler as I may be behind. Probably am....

Is it completely wrong that I kind of want Kate and Hugh to hook up before she kills him or for them to turn into faux siblings rather than mortal enemies????
I'm predicting that Hugh..."
You have a point there, but when I was reading that part my only though was (view spoiler)
when we think of Kate we think sarcasm. sword. hitting first and ask questions later. bodyguard. Pack politics and feelings analysis is not something we are used to.

If I get depressed or worse, over excitedly waiting for the book I will blame someone besides me... just saying :)

Ooh yeah hmmmmm. Any suspicions?

Ooh yeah hmmmmm. Any suspicions?"
I have mine but I NEVER get anything right with those two writers so, I'll keep them to myself. It better not be Jim or Derek...seriously... you don't want to have some angry hot-blooded portuguese girl knocking on your door demanding who the hell do you think you are to upset the fans that way.
I'm warning you. Imagine Gloria from the show Modern Family, only shorter, feistier and with an even funnier accent.

I haven't tried Mercy Thompson, I must check it out.
Thanks

I forgot to come back when I finished this, but it was one of my faves of the series even though Curran made me want to kick him in the head. In a way, I guess, it was good that it made Kate realize how much she wants him in her life, but geez man. Did you have to be SO convincing?!
I also really liked that we got out of Atlanta in this one and saw how other parts of the world are dealing post-Shift. Pretty cool!

Actually though, I'm looking forward to a little paranormal break. We've been reading this series solid for more than six months now. Does anyone else feel this?
I'm a little behind, just started the audio over the weekend and I'm now just getting into Chapter 5
I really like how this is developing with a trip overseas which gives us an insight into the different packs and country differences. I'm just at the point where Saimon has wrangled himself onto the boat. Let the fireworks ensue!
I have found this book has a lot of re-caps which I don't mind, but it unusual for the series so far. Especially when I think back to that first book and there were really no explanations at all. It seems odd there would be so many explanations now all shoved into book 6. Did anyone else find that?

I'm in chapter 13 now, so I've just looked at your first comments above re: chapters 5&6 and had some giggles :)
1hr25mins left of the audio. I am so worried about what is going to happen! :o

So the end was much closer than I realised. The last hour of the audio is the short story (deleted scene) about Saiman.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought it helped develop the characters and the world in a really interesting way. I expected the HEA and I quite liked it actually. Otherwise the whole book would have felt pointless. But that's just me ;)

Book Synopsis
Mercenary Kate Daniels and her mate, Curran, the Beast Lord, are struggling to solve a heartbreaking crisis. Unable to control their beasts, many of the Pack’s shapeshifting children fail to survive to adulthood. While there is a medicine that can help, the secret to its making is closely guarded by the European packs, and there’s little available in Atlanta.
Kate can’t bear to watch innocents suffer, but the solution she and Curran have found threatens to be even more painful. The European shapeshifters who once outmaneuvered the Beast Lord have asked him to arbitrate a dispute—and they’ll pay him in medicine. With the young people’s survival and the Pack’s future at stake, Kate and Curran know they must accept the offer—but they have little doubt that they’re heading straight into a trap
