Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments So I read the first few books a while ago, but would love to complete the series next year. I'm fairly new to the groups on Goodreads, but would love to get a group together to read through the series in 2014. Anyone interested?

message 2: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments I am! I have only read the first two but want to sit down and get to it.

message 3: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments I also want to buddy read The Talisman and Black house next year too.

message 4: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments I read Talisman a while ago but never got around to reading Black House. I'm cool with reading those as well.

message 5: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments I have been told that its good to read the talisman shortly after the dark tower series because there is some small parts of the dark tower world in them and you will enjoy the book more. I would not know yet though. :)

message 6: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments Awesome. Let's tack those on at the end.

message 7: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) There are a lot of books that tie into the Dark Tower series in some way...

Here's a comprehensive reading list someone on Amazon compiled, which goes in chronological order in book-setting time: http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Tower-True...

I'd suggest being cautious of reading the descriptions of why each book was placed though... they can contain spoilery stuff.

message 8: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 341 comments I'm slowly re-reading the series and I'm currently up to The Waste Lands but I haven't started it yet, and probably won't for a few weeks yet. I'll be looking forward to joining in the conversation.

The Talisman is one of my favourite books. I read it before the DT series and would like to re-read it again once I've finished so that I can enjoy all the DT references as you mentioned Jesse :)

message 9: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments Cool. I guess lets see who else jumps on the band wagon then. Do we come up with our own timeline of what we want to finish and by when or no? Just never really done a buddy read so just need to get the rules straight.

message 10: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments Woohoo Michelle! I loved book two and didn't finish boom three because of working two jobs haha. So I'm looking forward to just restarting.

That's up to you all. We (meaning mods) don't have any rules regarding these, except to be mindful of spoilers for people participating who might be new to the books.

I'll join your discussion, but I probably won't read along. I have a hard time sticking to a reading schedule, and I tend to just race through the series once I start it.

message 12: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments I've never really organized one, but I've been part of a couple recently. Want to shoot for January 1 to start The Gunslinger?

message 13: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) | 341 comments In other buddy reads I've done we just all read at our own pace but when commenting indicate page number or chapter and mark spoilers. Hope that helps!

Looking forward to discussing these books with everyone. I've always missed out on the buddy reads in the past and end up reading them on my own. I think this will be fun!

message 14: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments Alright! January 1st we begin!

Great list Becky! Thanks for sharing. I want to read them all in that order now :)

message 16: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments That is a great list! I've read several of the others and am anxious to see some of the connections to the series.

message 17: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I think I'll join in. I got about 100 pages into The Waste Lands before I gave up. I definitely want to give the series another shot.

I would like to suggest doing separate threads for each book and then we can indicate which chapter the spoiler mark is for in our post. I've used this method in other groups and it works well, especially since different media formats differ in page numbers.

I noticed that there are already threads for each of the books, but it would be nice to start over.

Chris ( librocubicularist ) King | 152 comments I'm very, very tempted ...would it be the Amazon list mentioned above or strictly the Tower books themselves?

message 19: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments Just the Dark Tower books. The list is cool, but it's overwhelming to read IT and The Stand among others before getting to the series.

I like having different threads for each book. I've never set that up and may not be able to do it on the Goodreads app. I can try later tonight or if someone more Goodreads savvy wants to get it rolling that's awesome, too.

Do we want to have a timeframe to complete each book?

message 21: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) Justin, it looks like Becky created the thread for Gunslinger:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Here is the folder for the other books:
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

A timeframe would be good, but I don't know how close I can stick to it. :P

message 22: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) Yup, thanks Jackie.

Justin, I set up all of the books, including The Wind Through the Keyhole. It's up to you regarding the timeframe. It's your show now. ;)

message 23: by Rikka (new)

Rikka Sama I would love to participate with you guys!
I would love to read the dark tower series ,anybody interested?

message 24: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (shelld79) | 44 comments This sounds great! I read them all over 10 years ago and have been wanting an excuse to do a re-read. I managed to read The Gunslinger again a couple of months ago which really got me wanting to continue with the rest of the series again.
I'm definitely in on this for whenever you guys want to start.

message 25: by Stevo (new)

Stevo (stevop) | 230 comments I wanna read other stuff next year but the DT is so good...!

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments I say thank ya!

message 32: by Daniel (new)

Daniel Olds | 27 comments This sounds great! I've been wanting to read them and excited to be reading with others.

message 33: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments I have a question, when are we reading wind through the keyhole?

message 34: by Justin (new)

Justin (rockstarintraining) | 1 comments I think we should read it between Wizard and Glass and Wolves of the Calla....

message 35: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments Alright cool!

message 36: by Nicole (new)

Nicole (rhavenize) | 44 comments Jonathan wrote: "Has this started yet ? I haven't ever done something like this but it sounds like fun"

Hey, if it started. Maybe you, Jonathan, can be my buddy read for the series.
This sounds like a great idea!

message 37: by Jesse (new)

Jesse Stahl | 47 comments Yes we started in January, but you can always either catch up or just read at your own pace, there are other pages listed under the individual novels on the forum so you can talk about it there. I have also posted questions on the pages up till current as well. There are a few of us members who are fairly active on this buddy read some are dropping in and out. So feel free to join us whenever you feel. The only thing is that I believe most of us chose to read the revised edition of the gunslinger.

message 38: by Troop (new)

Troop Leader So glad I found this group!! I am currently on The Wolves of the Calla. My favorite...well no...Wizard and Glass is still in the running. I am obsessed, committed, & frustrated by this series. It could be because I haven't read much Stephen King until this year and it's all been DT.
I have read IT, SALEM'S LOT, & UNDER THE DOME in the last 5 years.
Looking forward to reading the threads you all have posted. Thanks for creating this group.
