Yeah, I've missed a lot of stuff due to GR having horrible, horrible notification systems.

message 354: by Becky (new)

Becky (beckyofthe19and9) I don't rely on the notifications for group updates. I just do rounds from my homepage.

I don't always get the little red number, either.

No... I mean, I just don't follow threads that way. I don't use the notification system to alert me to new comments, I check group threads I'm interested in from my homepage or by group.

The only things I get notifications for are likes, comments on reviews, and review/status comment threads.

message 357: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes ^That's what I do. I turned off all notifications. Sometimes a thread will reset itself to give me notifications, but I quickly fix that.

I do. When will agencies and organizations remember that when one deals with the InterWebs they should expect the worst?

Truth

message 389: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes Of course Terry Pratchett gave us:
"The only things known to go faster than ordinary light is monarchy, according to the philosopher Ly Tin Weedle. He reasoned like this: you can’t have more than one king, and tradition demands that there is no gap between kings, so when a king dies the succession must therefore pass to the heir instantaneously. Presumably, he said, there must be some elementary particles — kingons, or possibly queons — that do this job, but of course succession sometimes fails if, in mid-flight, they strike an anti-particle, or republicon. His ambitious plans to use his discovery to send messages, involving the careful torturing of a small king in order to modulate the signal, were never fully expanded because, at that point, the bar closed."

message 390: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thenightowl) I think some of the organizations that fail at it don't have proper marketing folks that know what they're doing. Instead they have Tom from admin running the show because he knows what twitter is.

I live in the Land O'Jocks. :(

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments This is rather insulting and judgmental...

message 393: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I'm sorry that you're offended. I thought it was funny - especially since the people I know is PA are definitely sports obsessed, with very few nerds in the mix.

I'm not really sure what's judgmental, unless it's the idea that jocks and nerds don't get along? While it's a generalization, and there are of course nerds who like sports and vice versa, it's a pretty common joke theme.

message 394: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, Bad Girls Deadlift (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 5312 comments I've lived in "wedgieland" and "land o'jocks"

I can say that most people here are sports mad (especially since we always believe we'll win...even though we never do. We win the off season.).

Pterry also gave us this:

"Light thinks it travels faster than anything but it is wrong. No matter how fast light travels, it finds the darkness has always got there first, and is waiting for it."

message 400: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I'm not sure whether or not I have RBF or not. I suspected I might, but Jer says I don't... but, then, he says he's not sure I have a "resting" face as I tend to hold onto the last expression/emotion I felt.

As such - I think sometimes I have a bit of a scowl about something, but it's a back-of-my-mind thing, so when people ask me what's wrong I'm like "What? Nothing"

So I do get that a lot - and it is annoying.

Nothing's wrong. Except now there is, 'cause you're annoying me.

LOL

And I have had to do "I'm not making a face. That's just my face."

I have also been told by people that they found me intimidating when they first met me.

The funniest for me here was #16. One time we were going to meet some friends of Jer's, and I was sitting on the couch like that, and this girl Erica, who is totally neurotic, was like "Are you judging me? Stop judging me!"

And I'm like, "I'm not - I'm resting... " O_O

But now I do it on purpose to mess with her.
