Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I remember those to Colleen (I mean c.o.lleen). Hollow candy cigs. that had powdered sugar in the center that came out when you blew through them.

I used to like the bubblegum cigars.

Never. I love liquorice.

And root beer.
And jelly bellies.
And wine gums.
And sour patch kids.
And cookies.

I don't have a problem.

message 275: by DoodlePanda (new)

DoodlePanda | 506 comments Oh fine, I'll share. Too much liquorice is bad for your kidneys anyways... In return I hope you shall share the cookies. And the wine gums. And if there is any chocolate I'll have some of that too. Plz. Thanks :)

DoodlePanda | 506 comments Is that sweet liquorice though? Because I don't like the sweet stuff, only salty.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments They're like Jujyfruits which are gummies, but older and cling to your teeth like glue.

Gummy Bears are softer, usually and sweeter. Wine gums can be an acquired taste.

DoodlePanda | 506 comments Homeinmyshoes wrote: "Sambucas all around!"

Now. This is where I draw the line. Sambuca is evil. Just thinking about the word stimulates my gag reflex. Sambuca is the only drink that has made me sleep on the bathroom floor curled around the toilet with vomit in my hair. No not talk of sambuca. Ever. Please? I'll drink anything else though :)

message 290: by HomeInMyShoes (new)

HomeInMyShoes ^I had that with beer, but I'm back to enjoying beer in moderation after several years of avoidance.

The problem with Sambuca, is it's never just one or two on its own, by the time people get around to Sambucas it's way past the time to have quit.

Nyssa | 2023 comments Would you say that in general, Americans tend to like their candies/sweets sweeter than Europeans?

message 293: by Christa (new)

Christa (christaw) Texture is often the defining characteristic for categories of these candies.

Gummis have more chewiness and are softer, as HIMS mentioned, whereas jujus have more of a firm "bite" (you can bite through it without looking like a dog with a rawhide). For even more bite, you can move on to jellies, which are along the lines of your common gumdrop. HIMS can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think wine gums fall more into the juju - jellies range.

For the ultimate bite-ness without the chewiness, one would go to the mellocremes, which include candy corn.

I appreciate candy.

I don't think I've seen any other candies like candy corn.

I occasionally see candies around holidays that are "offshoots" of candy corn - different shapes and flavors but recognizable as basically the same stuff. And I've seen "gourmet" candy corn, too.
