Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Books are always what congress calls "extra-budget" items. In other words they get bought regardless of budget.

So much truth in this.

But I have been known to cut my food budget pretty hard to get a few more books. And I mostly buy clothes only when absolutely forced. Ex: I need all new jeans that I can't afford...but I bought a book today.

HomeInMyShoes The cartoon is funny, but I've totally gotten out of buying books except for my kids. The ten to twenty minutes of reading we do together before bed is not negotiable. Ever. Even when it is late we read.

Now my own purchases are gone. I haven't bought a book since 2014 for myself and those three or four titles were for my around the world challenge where I had a few too many not at the library options.

I have my lists of books to keep me company.

All library now. I do use eReaderIQ to track bargains, but I just haven't been buying anything. So far this year I got one freebie with The Variant Effect and everything else is the library.

I love my library. My wallet loves my library even more.

I'd be bankrupt if my library was lousy. Or I'd have to give up reading. Sad either way.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I'm still splitting the difference. I find I read a lot of library books...but buy my own books which sort of have to wait when i get a lit of library books.
