Billies? As in "hill?"

I used to get in fights because I'm tall. I was taller than most people through HS when the rest of them caught up.

And - being who I am - I refused to back down. So I spent a lot of time being disciplined. I didn't give a shit - you start it, I finished it.

When I was small a bully in the neighborhood sent me home crying to my great-aunt once. She told me that the next time I came home crying cause someone hit me and I didn't try my best to kill them...SHE was going to whoop my ass. I've never gone home crying alone since, lol.

She was! And she wasn't playing around either. I get some of my attitude from her - it used to drive guys crazy. One of the things she was ADAMANT about was taking things from men/boys. Never take a gift from a man you are not already dating. If you do he can hold that over your head and attempt to coerce sex or other intimate actions. She was dead serious about that - and about borrowing in general.

I didn't get to hear most of them - she considered me too young then she came down with dementia as she got closer to 100.

But she did tell some funny ones when she felt they were appropriate.

I have a work friend who gets this stuck in his head whenever he hears it, so I've started randomly walking past his cube singing it.

I, of course, had to share this on his Facebook. :D

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I know. I made the mistake of reading the books instead of just seeing the movies.

Sigh.

I've talked to several young people who when asked about harry Potter have seen the movies but not read the books...and seem not at all interested in actually reading them. It's frustrating.

Jackie (thenightowl) Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "I've talked to several young people who when asked about harry Potter have seen the movies but not read the books...and seem not at all interested in actually reading them. It's frustrating. "

My boyfriend is one of those people... not young, mind you, but one of those people who saw the first movie, was bored by it and wasn't interested in reading the book. I had to convince him that the books were way better than the movies and he really only started reading it because he knows I'm such a big fan. He's now on book 3 and is loving the series so far. He actually travels with the books and wants to read it rather than playing video games. :)

The Hunger Games movie had the opposite affect on him. He saw the movie and immediately went out and brought the books and gobbled them up. So yeah, it's a shame the HP movies doesn't do the series justice.

message 1076: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Yeah, but I'm sure there are some people who saw the HP movies and then wanted to read the books.

And, honestly, there are some movies-from-books that I've seen where I have no interest in reading the books, so I can't get on people's cases too much about it... though I do try and promote the superior awesomeness of the HP books.

***

I need to watch Hunger Games one day. I think I might potentially like the movie more than the book.
