Hope your dad continues to progress well Judy. Nice review! And no, wasn't surprised by Lata's choice. Kabir would not have worked out apart from the religion issue and Amit I saw as more of a good friend than husband material. I wonder what the update is on Seth's A Suitable Girl, which was supposed to be released this summer but didn't happen.

Actually, Seth was scheduled to release A Suitable Girl this summer! He kept pushing back the timeline, which has made his publisher pretty upset...and no book yet. Re: Haresh, I totally get why he negotiated to live within the Czech compound - he achieved a coup of sorts. While not technically at their level, he would be considered at a higher level just being granted the right to live among the next management level and would be viewed as special - pretty smart guy. The Czech shoe company Praha is reflective of the worldwide Czech shoe company Bata, which has a huge factory outside Calcutta, which has spawned the township called Batanagar. It's a mini city with virtually all the services a city needs - all for its employees. It still exists today.

I finished the book today finally. I really really enjoyed it. I found myself totally immersed in the world. I am sad Lata chose Haresh even though I understand it.
