Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Here's my reading Journey for tomorrow. I hope you guys enjoy checking out the books I've read as a kid to now. ^_^

1. Have you always loved books? Who, if anyone, in your life has most inspired you to read?
My Mom always read to me and that inspired me to read. I love reading and have read books as long as I can remember. Reading for pleasure is what I love to do. I love to discover new authors and catch up on ones I have currently read. If it is a good read, I'll check it out.

2. What was your favourite childhood book?
I loved Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It was the first book I ever read by her and the illustrations in it were good too. Definitely check it out. I also read growing up The Magic School Bus series because I learned a lot from them. Others I read and enjoyed growing up were Werewolves don't go to Summer Camp, The Fear Street series by R.L. Stine, Dr. Seuss, The Sweep series by Cate Tiernan which I read in middle school which was pretty good, the Harry Potter books, and that's all I can remember at the moment.

3. Which books do you remember studying at school? Did you enjoy them?
Books I read/had to study in school were: The Outsiders, Where The Red Fern Grows, Masque of the Red Death, Harry Potter and the Sorceror's Stone, The Hobbit, Julius Caesar, The Crucible, Diary of Anne Frank, The most Dangerous Game, Cantebury Tales, The Hound of the Baskervilles, The Great Gatsby, and in the 7th grade we had to read stories out of the weekly reader like one was a radioplay version of The Shadow which was pretty fun. Out of all the books I had to read for school, the Great Gatsby was my least favorite because it was boring and I foolishly selected it for my final book report my senior year of High school and passed Senior English with a C. I did enjoy the others though.

4. Where do you most enjoy reading? Do you need silence to read, or can you read almost anywhere?
I love to read in my saucer chair in my room and in bed but I can read almost anywhere if it is not too noisy.

5.Choose five of your favourite books and tell us why you loved them so much!
1. Thief of Always by Clive Barker-This was my first ever Clive Barker book before reading the Abarat series and some of his other books as well as his first book for Young adults which got me into his books. It is a great read about a boy who is whisked away from his boring life to a house of seasons where every evening is Halloween and every morning is Christmas. I enjoyed it and is my favorite book of his.

2. Eyes of the Dragon by Stephen King-This book got me started on Stephen Kings books and is his first young adult fantasy horror novel about two brothers who try to stop an evil wizard (Flagg from the stand) from taking over the Kingdom. It's a pretty good read and that one with Cycle of the Werewolf got me to start on Stephen King's books even though I've only read a few of his so far.

3. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman-This is my favorite Neil Gaiman book thus far of the ones I read. This book is his version of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle book except it is set in a graveyard. It is a pretty good read and that opening line is awesome too "There was a hand in the darkness and it held a knife." Makes for a spooky beginning.

4. Upon the Midnight Clear by Sherrilyn Kenyon-This one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's novels is my favorite book of hers that I read at Christmas every year. This book is apart of her Dream Hunter series and is her take on a Christmas carol but with a dream hunter, a demon, and a writer who is loved by all but hated by one. I enjoy reading it around Christmastime.

5. Cycle of the Werewolf by Stephen King-This is the book that became the film "Silver Bullet" which Stephen King wrote the screenplay for which this book Cycle of the Werewolf is based on. I love this one because of it is told by the months of the year and the illustrations were great in it. This book with Eyes of the Dragon made me a fan of Stephen King and is a pretty good read.

6. Do you prefer reading fiction or non fiction?
I read more fiction than nonfiction but try to balance the two with graphic novels and more. I'm also starting to read more classics now too.

7. Are you fond of a particular author and what attracts you to their books? (You can pick a few if you can’t choose!)
I love Sherrilyn Kenyons books because she sends you on an emotional rollercoaster ride through each one.
I love her series: Dark Hunter, Dream Hunter, The League, and Chronicles of Nick and she always has great covers for her books. The first one of hers I read that got me into her books was the Dream Hunter and then Dark Side of the moon and so on. I've met her a few times at her book signings and she signs her books for free and takes free pictures. A very nice and down to earth author from TN. She's my favorite author too.

There are so many others I like but can't think of them at the moment.

8. Is there an author you haven't yet tried but you'd really like to?
I read my first Debbie Macomber and Louisa May Alcott and would love to read more from them as well as finish the Pizza Lover's mysteries by Chris Cavender and the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich. Would love to try to read more indie authors like Christine Converse of Bedlam stories because a friend told me that one is a pretty good read and do more read 4 review books because it is a great way to discover new authors that way and because you can befriend them on goodreads too. I'd also like to read more of the Al Roker mystery series of the chef Billy Blessing because the first two I read were good. I'd love to read more classics to balance out my fiction and nonfiction but we'll see what happens. Reading for Pleasure rocks!

9. Do you rely on goodreads to keep track of your reading or do you have your own method?
I use goodreads to track my progress now but sometimes I have to ask my mom how many pages I have left to go. LOL.

10. What's the best book you've read so far this year? What are you reading at the moment? What will you be reading next?
I am currently reading Krampus the Yule Lord by Brom and don't know what I will read next. The best book I've read so far this year that was an amazing discovery for me was Keepers of Arden by LK Evans which was one of the Read for review books I received this year for my ereader as an ebook with the other read for review books I've checked out this year but it is a great young adult fantasy novel. Definitely check it out! I have more books in my best books of 2013 list on here.

Gill | 5719 comments I also enjoyed reading this, Amber. Thankyou. I don't think I've read anything by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I know she's very popular.

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Your journey is so interesting Amber. I love the way you have developed your own favourite choices of reading from what you studied at school.

I've also become aware that you are always willing to give new authors a try, which is such a good thing to do. I for one could do more of this :)

Tracey (traceypb) | 1193 comments lovely journey Amber. There are some new to me authors I will look up. thank you. :)

Leslie | 16369 comments Thanks for sharing, Amber! I read The Little House books growing up too - did you read the entire series? People now forget about the one you mentioned since the TV show was named after the second book (Little House on the Prairie)...

So you like King, don't you???
I love Laura Ingalls. When I was a kid I didn't know it was a series of books; I only knew the sit com on tv. Now I read one or two books a year: I don't want to have them all finshed!!!

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Yep LauraT I do. ^_^ and awesome!

message 13: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) No But my mom has. I want to read under the dome by him next.

message 14: by Shirley (new)

Shirley | 4177 comments Thanks Amber, I've enjoyed reading this! I have recently downloaded The Graveyard Book on my kindle, so it's good to see it as one of your favourites! I've not read any of the Little House books but I loved the tv series as a child. If I had realised there were books, I'm sure I would have enjoyed them! I already knew you were a Stephen King fan, and interestingly, the only book I have read of his is the one you want to read next, Under the Dome! I hope you enjoy it!

message 15: by Amber (new)

Amber (amberterminatorofgoodreads) Thanks Shirley and I will. ^_^ I hope you enjoy the graveyard book.
