She is a bit irritating but I'm muddling through. I hope she gets better.

I finished this yesterday. I have to say that I really disliked her at first. To the point that I wasn't sure I wanted to continue but I read Dhes's review and held out hope. I warmed up to her and though she isn't a favorite heroine, I did enjoy the book.

I personally don't like Julianne, but I find it refreshing for the heroine to be a bit shallow, and I like Patrick.
I can do 3rd set of dqs if you like

I'd best get my tush in gear, then. First, I'm going to run to the fabric and grocery stores and then buckle down. Oh, wait! I have it on audio, too. Should be a breeze then.

1. How do you feel about Julianne Baxter? Do you like her, dislike her, or feel neutral towards her right now? Is she just a shallow flirt? And a bossy one at that? (I don’t like her voice on the audio; she sounds quite spoiled and stuck-up.)
2. Was her motive for seeking out Patrick’s brother purely mercenary with regards to marriage? Or is there more to this? It doesn’t seem as if she needs the money.
3. Is it tricky for an author to pull off having the heroine start off liking one character and switch their affections to another? Do they run the high risk of making them seem fickle? Julianne switched her affections quite quickly, IMHO. But maybe all it takes is a kiss...and she is young.
4. How do you feel about Patrick Channing? Do you like him? He seems to have Julianne’s number right off the bat. Are you like me and have a soft-spot in your heart for veterinarians?
5. Don’t you find it improbable that Julianne would be traveling alone to Scotland?
6. BOOK QUOTE: “There can always be a mistake.” We don’t know much about the circumstances of Patrick’s brother death, nor Julianne’s roll in it. Does this make it hard for you to get a grasp of their conversation after the dog’s surgery?
7. Speaking of the dog’s surgery, that lamb crying in the background was a little too much Silence of the Lamb for me. Comments?
8. It seems Patrick has mixed feelings towards Julianne; that he is still attracted to her. How can that be, given her accusation?
9. Do you think Patrick and Eric were fighting over Julianne? Was the blood on Patrick from his vet work?
10. Do you think they’ll go back to London? If so, will it be together?

1. How do you feel about Julianne Baxter? Do you like her, dislike her, or feel neutral towards her right now? Is she just a shallow flirt? And a bossy one at that? (I don’t like her voice on the audio; she sounds quite spoiled and stuck-up.) I don't really like her. I don't understand her motives. She seems very shallow to me. Hopefully somewhere down the line she'll grow on me.
2. Was her motive for seeking out Patrick’s brother purely mercenary with regards to marriage? Or is there more to this? It doesn’t seem as if she needs the money. The brother was the heir and sought after. I figure it was because of that.
3. Is it tricky for an author to pull off having the heroine start off liking one character and switch their affections to another? Do they run the high risk of making them seem fickle? Julianne switched her affections quite quickly, IMHO. But maybe all it takes is a kiss...and she is young. Well, her parents might have encouraged her. **Shrugs** But yes, she is young and not aware of her true feelings or maybe she really is fickle.
4. How do you feel about Patrick Channing? Do you like him? He seems to have Julianne’s number right off the bat. Are you like me and have a soft-spot in your heart for veterinarians? I am loving him. Being the second son and knowing he will make to make it on his own must be hard for a person. But I'm sure he didn't really kill his brother on purpose. I do love that he has a soft spot for animals.
5. Don’t you find it improbable that Julianne would be traveling alone to Scotland? yes, I find it hard to believe but this is fiction and that's the way it apparently needed to go down.
6. BOOK QUOTE: “There can always be a mistake.” We don’t know much about the circumstances of Patrick’s brother death, nor Julianne’s roll in it. Does this make it hard for you to get a grasp of their conversation after the dog’s surgery? Obviously if we knew the whole story we could make better judgments on the situation. I am confused by not knowing the whole of it but I'm working through it.
7. Speaking of the dog’s surgery, that lamb crying in the background was a little too much Silence of the Lamb for me. Comments? Made me wonder what was up with that but I found it sort of sweet that he would be caring for a small lamb.
8. It seems Patrick has mixed feelings towards Julianne; that he is still attracted to her. How can that be, given her accusation? I think he has mixed feelings at the moment. Attracted to her but "hating" her for her role in the whole thing.
9. Do you think Patrick and Eric were fighting over Julianne? Was the blood on Patrick from his vet work? I think the blood in from an animal, yes. Maybe they fought after Eric hurting a horse or other animal? It could have been a fight about her but I don't know.
10. Do you think they’ll go back to London? If so, will it be together? I think yes, they will go. More likely together.

#1 – Yes, I don’t understand her motives, either. That would help – or maybe not! LOL!
#2 – So, she wanted the title?
#4 – Yes, the English were weird, giving it all to the first born and nada to the rest. The first born was also not the wisest choice, too.
#7 – Yes, sweet once I found out, but definitely weird when she had fallen and he was amputating.
#8 – Ah!

#1 – Her incriminating Patrick when she wasn’t sure is going to be a high hurdle for her to overcome with me.
#2 – Ah!
#4 – LOL! Me, too.
#5 – I hate it what that happens in a book. **sigh**
#6 – *shrugs**
#8 – …and us,too. LOL!

1. How do you feel about Julianne Baxter? Do you like her, dislike her, or feel neutral towards her right now? Is she just a shallow flirt? And a bossy one at that? (I don’t like her voice on the audio; she sounds quite spoiled and stuck-up.)
I'm not exactly fond of her, but I'm giving her a chance. She's spoiled and used to getting her way it seems, but maybe she can improve with Patrick's influence upon her, lol.
2. Was her motive for seeking out Patrick’s brother purely mercenary with regards to marriage? Or is there more to this? It doesn’t seem as if she needs the money.
Yes, I think it was. The brother was the one who was going to get the title and the wealth, so of course she'd be going after him, especially if her parents are pushing her to marry well.
3. Is it tricky for an author to pull off having the heroine start off liking one character and switch their affections to another? Do they run the high risk of making them seem fickle? Julianne switched her affections quite quickly, IMHO. But maybe all it takes is a kiss...and she is young.
In some cases it's tricky, but in this case it was no big deal. I don't think Julianne was attached to Patrick's brother in any way, she was just going after the bigger catch. And she is young, what, like 20 or less when it happens? So an amazing kiss can do a lot to sway your sensibilities.
4. How do you feel about Patrick Channing? Do you like him? He seems to have Julianne’s number right off the bat. Are you like me and have a soft-spot in your heart for veterinarians?
I like him quite well. I liked him a lot in What Happens in Scotland, so having him as the hero now is great. The vet angle is just a bonus :)
5. Don’t you find it improbable that Julianne would be traveling alone to Scotland?
Of course, but no more improbable than things that happen in other books I've read, lol.
6. BOOK QUOTE: “There can always be a mistake.” We don’t know much about the circumstances of Patrick’s brother death, nor Julianne’s role in it. Does this make it hard for you to get a grasp of their conversation after the dog’s surgery?
A little, but it just made me more curious to find out what really happened.
7. Speaking of the dog’s surgery, that lamb crying in the background was a little too much Silence of the Lamb for me. Comments?
Lol, no, he's a vet, it was an orphan lamb, only made sense.
8. It seems Patrick has mixed feelings towards Julianne; that he is still attracted to her. How can that be, given her accusation?
I wouldn't be attracted to someone who tried to ruin my life, but hey. He's just a man xD
9. Do you think Patrick and Eric were fighting over Julianne? Was the blood on Patrick from his vet work?
Not sure what they'd been fighting about. I can't see Patrick putting up a fight for Julianne after their little dance and kiss, especially after he'd told her he knew she was after his brother, and he had no problem with it, etc. And yea, I think the blood was from an animal.
10. Do you think they’ll go back to London? If so, will it be together?
Yes, I'm sure they probably will, together, so they can get even more attracted to each other :D

#1 – We can only hope!
#3 – Good point.
#4 – LOL!
#7 – I guess this was just me, then. **shrugs**
#8 – FOFLMBO!
#10 – True. Progresses the plot.

11. Reverend Ramsey shows up looking for his dog. What do you think of him denying the dog due to his lost of leg? What about his attitude towards Julianne? Was he justified in his judgments against her?
12. What do you think of Julianne's response to Rev. Ramsey?
13. Patrick learns his father is truly dead. His father was the only one who believed in his innocence. What do you think of Patrick's mother for not having faith in him? Do you condemn her for her belief?
14. Patrick meets with James and David and marriage is mention. Do you think James was conspiring against Patrick? Since Patrick was the only single one of them? Or do you think he truly believed that was the only way to "fix" the situation?
15. Julianne didn't lock the door. Is she stupid or what? Was she so spoiled and protected at home that she honestly didn't think anything of the unlocked door?
16. Do you blame Patrick for not saying anything and letting Julianne believe she was the only one with the idea for marriage? Do you think he will confess that he has his own reasons for the marriage?
17. What is up with Julianne's resentment over being told what to do?
18. What do you think of Gemmy and his affection for Julianne?

1. How do you feel about Julianne Baxter? Do you like her, dislike her, or feel neutral towards her right now? Is she just a shallow flirt? And a bossy one at that? (I don’t like her voice on the audio; she sounds quite spoiled and stuck-up.)
I really disliked her. She came off as extremely shallow. I kept telling myself that surely she got better, I mean it was supposed to be a love story with a HEA at the end.
2. Was her motive for seeking out Patrick’s brother purely mercenary with regards to marriage? Or is there more to this? It doesn’t seem as if she needs the money.
Like everyone has said, he was the heir and she wanted the position/title to go with it. Reminding us again of how shallow she is.
3. Is it tricky for an author to pull off having the heroine start off liking one character and switch their affections to another? Do they run the high risk of making them seem fickle? Julianne switched her affections quite quickly, IMHO. But maybe all it takes is a kiss...and she is young.
She did switch her tune pretty fast. That must have been some kiss. Young people are pretty silly about stuff.
4. How do you feel about Patrick Channing? Do you like him? He seems to have Julianne’s number right off the bat. Are you like me and have a soft-spot in your heart for veterinarians?
I really like Patrick and the fact that he's a Vet. And he called her out right from the start so he gets extra points for that.
5. Don’t you find it improbable that Julianne would be traveling alone to Scotland?
Yes, that was just asking to be compromised.
7. Speaking of the dog’s surgery, that lamb crying in the background was a little too much Silence of the Lamb for me. Comments?
Silence of the Lamb, LOL. I didn't get that vibe but you made me laugh.
8. It seems Patrick has mixed feelings towards Julianne; that he is still attracted to her. How can that be, given her accusation?
I battled with this for a while. I get that he's attracted to her but he is a better person than me. I don't think I could have handled her as calmly as he did. I would have still harbored a lot of anger and contempt.
9. Do you think Patrick and Eric were fighting over Julianne? Was the blood on Patrick from his vet work?
It leads you to believe they were arguing over her, but I couldn't grasp that. Why would they? I'm still not a fan of Julianne at this point. I think it was more than that.
10. Do you think they’ll go back to London? If so, will it be together?
Yes and yes. Somewhere along the line they have to fall in love, right?

1. How do you feel about Julianne Baxter? Do you like her, dislike her, or feel neutral towards her right now? Is she just a shallow flirt? And a bossy one at that? (I don’t like her voice on the audio; she sounds quite spoiled and stuck-up.)
I’m trying to keep my feelings about Julianne neutral, but I really can’t see myself coming to like her anytime soon.
Yes, she absolutely acted like a shallow flirt. On top of that her spoilt side was clearly on display in the prologue.
2. Was her motive for seeking out Patrick’s brother purely mercenary with regards to marriage? Or is there more to this? It doesn’t seem as if she needs the money.
I think that maybe she wanted to show off her desirability by snagging the attentions of a future earl.
3. Is it tricky for an author to pull off having the heroine start off liking one character and switch their affections to another? Do they run the high risk of making them seem fickle? Julianne switched her affections quite quickly, IMHO. But maybe all it takes is a kiss...and she is young.
It is very tricky, and sometimes the heroine may come out as indecisive and fickle which are clearly not admirable traits.
Julianne did switch her affections quickly, but then I never really believed that she had any affection for the older brother. It was a bit hard for me to accept that it was her first kiss since she kept on pretending like a know-it-all.
4. How do you feel about Patrick Channing? Do you like him? He seems to have Julianne’s number right off the bat. Are you like me and have a soft-spot in your heart for veterinarians?
Patrick is quite likeable, in fact I rather feel sorry that he is going to end up with a shrew like Juliana.
I have never really been acquainted with a vet. However, from all the vets I have read about in the romance novels, l have developed a soft-spot for them too :)
5. Don’t you find it improbable that Julianne would be traveling alone to Scotland?
Yes! I found the whole thing very dubious. I half-expected her to encounter highwaymen or some such danger.
6. BOOK QUOTE: “There can always be a mistake.” We don’t know much about the circumstances of Patrick’s brother death, nor Julianne’s roll in it. Does this make it hard for you to get a grasp of their conversation after the dog’s surgery?
It was a bit confusing, but I think it was necessary to keep the suspense on.
7. Speaking of the dog’s surgery, that lamb crying in the background was a little too much Silence of the Lamb for me. Comments?
Maybe the lamb is hurt and he is treating it too.
8. It seems Patrick has mixed feelings towards Julianne; that he is still attracted to her. How can that be, given her accusation?
Patrick is angry with her because of her accusation, but maybe he is more frustrated by the fact that even after all that he is still attracted to her.
9. Do you think Patrick and Eric were fighting over Julianne? Was the blood on Patrick from his vet work?
I think there were many resolved issues between the two brothers, and Julianne’s involvement was only the last instigation.
It is highly probable that the blood was of an animal.
10. Do you think they’ll go back to London? If so, will it be together?
Yes, I think they’ll go back to London. It is more likely that they will go together.

#1 – True.
#4 – I agree; extra points.
#7 – ☺
#8 – Still battling with it. I don’t know about better…LOL! Me, either. Me, too. ...I have to remember that sometimes men are attracted to bitches in Real Life. I was stunned when I met one of my husband previous girlfriends; what a spoiled bitch. I don't think he could have ever handled someone that was that high maintenance. LOL!

#1 – Yes, she’s definitely spoiled. A different kind of heroine.
#3 – It was her first kiss? I missed that. I wasn’t paying attention, I guess.
#4 – LMBO! Me, too.
#5 – I was expecting that, too! LOL!
#7 – I think the little lamb was just hungry. It is just the sound of his cry came at a really weird time… at least for me.

11. Reverend Ramsey shows up looking for his dog. What do you think of him denying the dog due to his lost of leg? What about his attitude towards Julianne? Was he justified in his judgments against her?
Creep. He’s a little too quick to jump to conclusions, but Julianne wasn’t too bright in her responses.
12. What do you think of Julianne's response to Rev. Ramsey?
She needs to keep her mouth shut.
13. Patrick learns his father is truly dead. His father was the only one who believed in his innocence. What do you think of Patrick's mother for not having faith in him? Do you condemn her for her belief?
**shakes head** Not very loyal of her.
14. Patrick meets with James and David and marriage is mention. Do you think James was conspiring against Patrick? Since Patrick was the only single one of them? Or do you think he truly believed that was the only way to "fix" the situation?
I was totally surprised that these two friends would want to leg-shackle their friend to a “screw.” I understand their reasoning about a wife not testifying against her husband…
15. Julianne didn't lock the door. Is she stupid or what? Was she so spoiled and protected at home that she honestly didn't think anything of the unlocked door?
**shakes head** Probably all those things.
16. Do you blame Patrick for not saying anything and letting Julianne believe she was the only one with the idea for marriage? Do you think he will confess that he has his own reasons for the marriage?
Nope, I don’t blame him, all things considered. I think he’ll confess, eventually.
17. What is up with Julianne's resentment over being told what to do?
She’s pretty spoiled, stubborn, and head-strong; I image that is what grates.
18. What do you think of Gemmy and his affection for Julianne?
Maybe the dog knows something we don’t? Let’s hope so. I did laugh over his hiding when Patrick said, “I’ve a wife.” After Julianne complained Patrick probable would give Gemmy fleas and he needed a housekeeper. LMBO!

1. Neutral. Julianne wasn’t the kind of heroine I usually rooting for, but I think it would be interesting to see how she grow :)
2. I see that as something that expected from her. She was daughter of a Viscount, so its natural for her to want to marry heir to an earldom, especially if the said heir’s father was a good friend to hers. It just how the thing goes in that set.
3. I don’t think she was fickle. Despite her schemes, I think she was hopeless romantic at heart. I can see a witty handsome gentleman who kiss like a god could turn her heart into goeey, LoL. Why, I can see that happen to smarter and more experienced women *giggles*
4. Umm I’m not sure about Patrick. At first I like him, but then as I read more, his character got inconsistent. How on earth a man could lusted after a woman who accused him a murderer? And his father just died, shouldn’t he’s in mourning or something?
5. Nah, I peg her as someone who travel with a sweet bidable companion, a flighty maid, and at least half dozen trunks. But I suppose a desperate times call for desperate measures :D
6. Yes it confused me as well.
7. Bad, Lisa! Now you remind me that I want to read Hanibal Lecter series, however I’m too coward to read that series at night, LoL
8. Men are strange creature!
9. Well it seems so
10.Yes

11. He was self-righteous hollier-than-thou man. Skip better off without him
12. She could handle the situation in better way.
13. Poor Patrick. First his brother ( I think they were close) and then his father.
I don’t think that his mother believe he was guilty, she was in shock and grieved. Poor lady just lost her first boy and probably lost the other one to gallows. Her emotion was in vulnerable state.
14. James just thought the way lawyer did. You know that lawyers type usually come up with strangest solutions, LoL
15. I think she used to have a maid to do all those trivial things for her :D
16. Somehow I think he’ll fall for her along the way, but she found out, then all hell broke loose. It usually what happens in romance books, isn’t it?
17. I think that because people usually told her what to do and they didn’t take her seriously, which I must say, I can see why.
18. Well, at least Gemmy like her since it seems that everyone here in concencus to not liking Julianne, LoL

19. What do you ladies think about their wedding night? Do you think less of Patrick for not confess his ulterior motif for marrying Julianne?
20. Julianne thought Patrick married her because he had feeling for her. Well he certainly felt lust toward her. Do you think that Julianne naive for not suspecting Patrick actually only use her? Did it endear her to you or irritated you more?
21. Whoa, she didn't exactly see what happened yet she told what she "thought" what happened. There is huge difference there.
And that partly because she didn't want to admit her poor eyesight. She obviously felt guilty, but do you think its enough? If you were Patrick, could you forgive her?
21. So Patrick and his brother did argue about Julianne that fateful day. What do you think they were arguing about? Do you think it was sick that Patrick wanted her even after the last thing he and his brother did was arguing about her?
22. I'm surprised that Patrick just wanted to hushed thing up and not looking for the maid. Didn't he feel tad curious about what the maid saw? (I certainly do). If maybe there was someone who killed his brother and then pinned down the crime on him. What do you think?
Do you think Patrick accidentally shot his brother or there might be a mysterious shooter lurking arround?
23. Oh my, that was awkward meet the parent moment. I don't know how Patrick's mother could accept Julianne as daughter in law after ruined her son.
What do you think?
