dany (elothwen) The quiet place of the school where casual reading or studying can be done. We have a wide selection of books.

message 2: by Stephanie (last edited Jan 05, 2014 05:43PM) (new)

Stephanie The library was grandiose. There was no other word. Immense solid wood carved doors with intricate carving work along every edge opened up into a vast cavern like spaces with arched supports atop columns of yet more carved hardwoods. A dimness and dust settled over everything giving just the right amount of library ambiance. The school was large, Willa knew, but she had no idea how long it would take her to find it at first, even then she was dazzled by its size.

There had been a town library, like there always is, but she had no idea how or if she could use it, not being a resident. She had it in her head that she would figure it out because she suspected they would have more fiction available there, if the school one was modest it would be filled with school books. But she was wrong it was huge with a full catalog from Autobios to Zoology. What really amazed her was the huge sections dedicated to elements, natural forces, magics, and informational texts on all the things she never imagined existed until she started controlling leaves all those years ago.

The center of the room was filled with tables, chairs, desks, pedestals, podiums, busts of carvings each one a different shape some looked like fire some, like exploding water, each spectacular. Between each column ran rows of books ten or twelve feet high with a second floor just the same. A small window at the end of each row let in a dim light, just enough to see by. It was wonderful. She saw no immediate access to the second floor it must be back behind some book shelves, or at the other end, speaking of which she could barely see it.

She put her small book down, now seems so insignificant, and her pack with all she owned. She really needed to find a dorm room but somehow exploring the town and finding this became higher priorities then knowing where she was sleeping tonight. If it came to it she would sleep here, it was amazing. She walked to the nearest stack and started browsing her belongings forgotten. She was determined to set eyes on every book just to assure herself this was real. It might take a year just to look at them all, let alone open, and read them. Soon the only sound to be heard was the occasional shuffling of her shoes as she moved to the next few stacks.

dany (elothwen) Savannah pushed past the awestruck students crowding the hallway. They were new, obviously, considering the amazed looks on their faces- which were appropriate, since everything here was amazing.
She pulled the large oak doors open, revealing the colossal library.
Their were rows and rows of books, of possibly any subject you can imagine: dogs, open heart surgery, rocket science, elementals, everything.
She noticed one of the girl's from the café at the other end of the library. She seemingly came through the west door, unlike Savannah, who came from the east.
Instead of getting a book like she'd planned on, she walked down the large library's walkways and approached the girl- Willow? Willa? Savannah couldn't remember her name.

Stephanie Absorbed in her constant discovery of every new title in the biological elementals section, Willa didn't notice the tall blond girl from earlier in the cafe approach from the other entrance of the library. She was just as intimidating as before the difference now being she was looking directly at her. When Willa took a pause between two titles her heart jumped into her throat seeing the stern assertive woman with a puzzled look on her face. Willa was used to being ignored but that did not seem likely here. What should she say she wondered. "Um, hello."

message 5: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah raised her eyebrow at the jump. She shook her head slightly, responding, "I see you've found the library," she laughed slightly, "how do you like our school so far?" She smiled.

message 6: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "Oh.. um, it is something this is my first day. These books are amazing. I never thought there would be texts on all these things. I can't even begin to imagine the classes."

((Wow I am sucking at this today. Sorry. ><))

message 7: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah smiled. "The classes are amazing as well. What are you taking?" She assumed Willa knew, even being new.

message 8: by Stephanie (last edited Jan 04, 2014 07:10PM) (new)

Stephanie Suddenly Willa remembered her manners, an awkward smile passed her face, a bit ashamed that she had not really introduced herself. "My name is Willow, or Willa if you like. Yours is Savannah, right?"

"Just registered this morning, really. Music, geography, languages, science are some of them. I am very interested in this schools science classes. I loved biology and chemistry in mundane school. Do they run science classes like regular school here or do they talk about powers as well?" Willa was just starting to be absorbed by science at her old school when her life got uprooted and she was sent off to here.

"I am not sure what to expect from history of elementals, power control, or uses of power, but I probably need them. I also took self defense because, well, you never know." She looked off shyly her voice trailing. She was probably ranting again too much.

message 9: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) "Savannah, yes," answered Savannah, nodding.
Savannah listened as she spoke, eventually coming up with a response.
"Well, history of elementals explains how we came to be, and information on the powers. Uses of power, also known as power control, teaches you how to use your ability. And when it comes to science, I love it. They run it normally, but powers sometimes come in handy, if you have myokinesis or something of the matter." She laughed slightly at her own joke.

message 10: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "Myokinesis? I'm sorry I still don't now all the terms for the different elements people here control. Someone told me what I did was phytokinesis right after they told me I should come to this school." Her lack of knowledge was causing her to blush it was really frustrating, would she ever be able to catch up?

Savannah seemed to have it all put together and know so much. Willa really admired that, but wasn't sure if she really was interested in Willa or if it was just a test. She seemed like she like things to be in their place, judging by her clothing, jewelry, and makeup, and Willa was always out of place. Even now she plucked a leaf from her hair. How did that get there?

message 11: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah began, "I'm sorry, I guess I got ahead of myself. Myokinesis is the ability to manipulate muscles, a type of matter. Excuse my joke, if you will," she smiled, continuing, "How did you come by your invitation letter, exactly? If you don't mind me knowing, of course."

message 12: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "Well, I don't know who gave it to her but my great grandma had it when she said I was to attend school here. I was told to pack my things and she even let me borrow three books from her collection! Which no one is allowed to do." She was still quite amazed by the events of the last week.

"I was very afraid at first because I had gotten in a lot of trouble recently, family stuff." She remembered the pushing and taunting, followed by a chaos and bandaged cousins covered in cuts. "But it had started to spill over into school, which I really loved, so I feared I was being punished, but my Gramma is not so bad really. I see this will be a good place for me in the end."

Her eyes got a far away look. Seeing down the years to an older more fuller version of herself completely in control, kind and caring like her Gramma and just as hard and sharp. It made her feel old that she dreamed of being so aged.

Coming back to here and now she stood a little straighter getting more comfortable with the conversation as it went. "How long have you been attending the academy?" She asked in a more confident tone.

Stephanie ((Re-reading all my posts I find so many weird errors. Most from my phone posts but is it okay if I edit them when I see them? I swear I read them through five times before posting, still finds words in wrong places.))

message 14: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) ((You can edit whenever you'd like.))

Savannah nodded at appropriate moments, listening intently. When Willa had finally finished, she responded(wanting to ponder Willa's past), "This is my fourth year at Baldiver. I hope you don't mind that I've been here a lot longer than others; it's not a problem, really."

message 15: by Stephanie (last edited Jan 05, 2014 06:44PM) (new)

Stephanie Her eyebrows creased a bit before asking "What is the typical length of time to spend here? Do you stay until you can control it or do people sometimes stay longer?" She had seen some ancient looking people on her way around, but had assumed they were teachers or administrators. Some panic started in her stomach she she asked quickly "They don't keep you here do they?"

message 16: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah laughed. "I'm sorry. No, they don't. Students ages usually range from 10 to 19, but you can stay as long as you'd like."

message 17: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "This Library alone may tempt me to stay forever." She smiled and ducked back out to where she had abandoned her stuff. Looking around at the vastness of the space filled to the brim with knowledge she had not even begun to sip. "It make me feel like a puff of wind in a vast forest, too tiny and brief to ever rustle a single leaf."

message 18: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) She nodded, "Wait until you see the observatory. It's amazing," Savannah smiled, listening to the sentence at the end, "That's nice. Did you make it?"

message 19: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "Um, yes I guess I did." Willa lost the confidence she had gained, just as quickly as it had come. It caused here to start clutching her charm as it was wrapped around her wrist. Looking down at her stuff again she remembered she still did not have a place to sleep tonight.

message 20: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah felt she was being rude, not helping newbies around school. "Have you gotten a map, or do you still need help finding your way? I can help, if you'd like," she said with a smile.

message 21: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "No, they didn't give me a map when I registered" She started rifling through her bags, looking for the packet they had given her.

message 22: by dany (last edited Jan 08, 2014 02:38PM) (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah nodded absentmindedly.
"Well, did they at least give you your dorm number?" she said, frowning.

message 23: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie "Um maybe is it in here?" She holds up the packet from the registration office. Willa never was good with paperwork, more apt to wonder off into the town, she forgot to look through it.

message 24: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah took the paper work from her, flipping through it.
"Your dorm is 473. That's near mine, so I'll be glad to escort you," she said, smiling.

(Have you signed up for a dorm?)

message 25: by Stephanie (last edited Jan 09, 2014 08:07AM) (new)

Stephanie "Oh, thank you. I would find it on my own but there is no guarantee I would find it before dark." She gathered up her two bags prepared to move on to the next place, knowing this one will still be here when she got back. That is what she most about books; the leaves know their place and are always there.

((No I will do that))

message 26: by dany (new)

dany (elothwen) Savannah nodded. "Alright, if you insist," she replied, smiling.
She too began checking out the books she came for, and leaving.

message 27: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni pulls her into the library and smiles,"The library is so huge there are two levels they have every book ever." she says. "Oh! Come up here." she says weaving through the aisles of books.

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex laughs at her enthusiasm. "Wait up!" she calls and runs after her. "I don't know where I'm going!!" She whines in protest.

message 29: by Kylie (new)

Kylie "Oh sorry." Roni says waiting for her with a small chuckle. She makes an effort to go slower as they go up the stairs,"There's a huge window up here- we'll be able to see the storm perfectly. It's the perfect place to sit and read."

message 30: by [deleted user] (new)

"You scurvy li'l dixie, I oughta skin ya!" She laughs and follows up the stairs. "Now where is it?"

message 31: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni giggles at her and points to the window leading her to it," It's over here." She leads her over to a big window that looks out over the front of the school giving a perfect view of the skyline.

message 32: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex's eyes widen. "That is crazy..." She runs to the window and puts her hands against it. "Wow..."

message 33: by Kylie (new)

Kylie "I know." Roni says quietly coming up beside her and looking out. "Look." she says as a bolt of lightning comes down. She watches the grey clouds; their vision only slightly blurred by the pounding of the rain.

message 34: by [deleted user] (new)

She watches the rain, her eyes wide. She snaps back to. "Do they really have every book?"

message 35: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni smiles," I may have been exaggerating just a teeny bit." she continues looking out the window as she speaks,"But there's a good chance they'll have whatever you're looking for."

message 36: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex laughs. "I'm going to look for a book then. Where's the H section 'round here?" She smiles stupidly.

message 37: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni nods," I'll show ya." she says walking over to the "H" section. She let's Alex look for her book and browses the sections a bit herself.

message 38: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex browses the shelves, looking them up and down. "Aha." She pulls out a book. "Heart of a Gypsy. One of my favorites."

message 39: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni looks at a few things before she turns her head to look at the cover of Alex's book," Never heard of it. What's it about?" she asks curiously.

message 40: by [deleted user] (new)

"A young 'un. 'Bout our age. She's a wantin' to leave her li'l family and trav'l th' countryside. She leaves her family and runs away with this good lookin' fella, and they leave the town, livin' the life of a gypsy." Alex rubs the book cover. "Grew up readin' this, I did. Never gets old."

message 41: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni smiles, growing fond of Alex's accent. "Sounds like a good book." she says with a wistful smile," Wouldn't that be nice? To run off with some handsome guy and travel the world?"

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex laughs. "Yes'm. Use to dream o' that for years. Ain't ev'r found th' right guy though." She sighs and smiles.

message 43: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni smiles and winks," Well who knows; maybe you'll find him here." she lightly elbows her," Tall, handsome, and a cool power too."

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex laughs lightly. "With soft brown hair. Oh, and super casual and funny too." She grins.

message 45: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni giggles," And a charming smile, with bright eyes, and don't forget muscular."

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

"Oh yes. We simply can NOT forget about muscular." Alex giggles uncontrollably. "He must love water, and the outdoors too..."

message 47: by Kylie (new)

Kylie "Good with kids, brave, and a good kisser." Roni says giggling.

message 48: by [deleted user] (new)

"Oh goodness yes. An animal lover with a soft heart. Music lover too. Strong willed and good with weapons. The list could go on forever!" Alex's giggle turns into a laugh.

message 49: by Kylie (new)

Kylie Roni smiles and nods raising a finger to her mouth trying to speak through her giggles," We better quiet down or we're gonna get in trouble."

message 50: by [deleted user] (new)

Alex nods. She checks out her book, and motions for her to follow. "We shall continue this conversation elsewhere." She smirks. "Whats next on your tour?"
