I was browsing around on Follow My TV and spotted a new show, Killer Women (imdb), which is starting in a day or so... and starring Tricia Helfer. Be still my Battlestar Galactica-loving heart. I think I'm going to have to give this a shot.

Her co-star looks to be Marc Blucas though, and I really couldn't stand him in Buffy. Although having realised just how long ago that was (it never stops feeling like Buffy just went away), I guess the intervening years could have been kind...

I didn't love Marc Blucas either in Buffy. I think he did a good job with Riley who was ultimately a boring character. Nobody wanted that to work out. I myself had a bit of a fit when Buffy and Spike happened. Oh yeah.

I kinda hated that whole season. I think I stopped watching Buffy 'cause of it, though I went back and finished it eventually.

I had the misfortune of never being able to watch Buffy when she was on. Conservative parents. Boo! But that season was rough. I was over the Initiative about two episodes before they were introduced. And Giles kept trying to leave the show. Nope! No Giles, no Buffy.

I agree, Felicia, Riley bored me to tears. Which makes me wonder if I should blame Marc Blucas as much as I do. On the one hand, I feel that a good actor can and should elevate mediocre writing -- there are soooo many episodes of Once Upon a Time that I could hold up as an example (most of them from season 2). On the other hand, I once spent a couple of years hating a particular actress whom I felt ruined an entire season of a show I otherwise enjoyed, only to eventually see her in other things and realise she's quite talented. Sometimes all you can make with crap is more crap.

And while I hesitate to describe any part of Buffy as crap... well... the Riley stuff wasn't good. It wasn't good at all.

And can I say that I never like Tara even remotely was much as Oz. She was boring too. And a wet blanket.

I'm a conservative parent and my kids watched Buffy. I even watched it occasionally. We're not all bad...

Anyway, I think I'll try Killer Women. There have been a couple of attempts at U.S.Marshal, Texas Ranger etc. programs with a female lead but the writers always screw them up. I hope this works out to be a good show in the vein of NCIS or something.

I must admit though, upon rewatching I did find Amber Benson pretty wooden. At the time it aired I think I was so impressed and happy to see the show deal with a lesbian relationship in an open and realistic (um, for a show about vampires and witches and stuff) way that didn't reduce either character to The Token Lesbian that I was more forgiving, particularly as Alyson Hannigan did a great job with the material on her end. And is cute as a button.

I thought they did a great job with the lesbian relationship. And showing its effect on all the characters. I was very pleased with that. It just wish Willows girlfriend wasn't so lame

Aww. At least it's only a couple of weeks! I was surprised to see that many/most of the things I watch air in the same month on both sides of the Atlantic now (it's probably been that way for a while but I don't watch live TV), since I remember when they were months apart.

I also just watched it "to see how I'd like it". I grew up in East TN also in the mountains and this show treats the people there with more respect than is usually seen.

It's not quite TV but I just watched Dead Snow this evening with the boy. It's hilarious! It's about zombie nazi's who attack these young college age students in the mountains. We think it's a Swedish film. There are subtitles but the movie is super gory and campy fabulous. Highly recommended. It's on Netflix.

Watched Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters last night. Delightfully ridiculous in it's OTTness. The girl's acting was a bit meh, but, otherwise, lots of fun.

I watched the first one and it seems ok. But too soon to decided.

Yeah, I watched it the other day and I'm sold. There wasn't a lot to grab onto plotwise because it was mostly setup, but I could happily just watch McConaughey and Harrelson's fucked up partnership all season long. Their car conversations killed me. (Let's make the car a place of silent reflection.)

Black Sails is another great midseason pilot. I was dubious, because Starz shows have been a mixed bag so far, but it's perfectly cast and brilliantly paced and just... really promising. I can't wait for the rest of the season.

I've been meaning to watch that for ages and just never get around to it. The trailers reminded me a lot of "The Mummy" and "Van Helsing" which I class as movies where fun definitely outweighs plot, logic and acting lol. Might see if I can pick it up soon!

Back to my (apparently) favourite show if this thread is anything to go by. I loved the last episode of Sherlock!! The wedding episode was funny but a bit meh for me but now that I've seen the last one I understand why they did the second episode how they did. But the final episode was great, particularly (view spoiler)[ when Sherlock gets shot, loved that whole sequence when he is working out what to do (view spoiler)[. I don't think that the end will have people talking as much as they did for the series 2 cliffhanger but it was always going to be difficult to top that anyway. (hide spoiler)] (hide spoiler)]
