Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments They cancelled Longmire!

*rage*

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments ...but (to quote Sheldon Cooper) it ended in a cliff hanger....

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Looks like they're planning to make the 4th season and shop the show to other networks...

Keep hoping I guess.

message 504: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Yeah, I'm thinking AMC or FX would be a good fit.

message 505: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I'm STILL only watching TV.

SO, I had to return my birthday gift( The Mentalist) as 4 out of the 5 disc for season 4 were damaged, and the seller wanted the entire boxed set back, not just season 4. Its things like this that make people take to the high seas!!

The twins and I have been watching Bones together. Not always the most kid friendly show, but they're preteens now (dear Lord I'm getting old!) and they know when something might be too much for them, so they'll walk away.
I'm, also watching Criminal Minds - sans kids (man that show is intense! Sometimes I have to walk away.)
Plus, I just started watching Numb3rs. I've watched the first season before, with my husband, but we drifted away from it, so I want to give it another go.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments We started watching S1 on Arrow recently. I never followed that comic, so it's all new to me - except in the way it's totally like a different version of Batman.

The only problem is that it's a CW show, so there's all this relationship angst/drama that I'm like, "Can we just go back to the blowing shit up parts?"

Thats always the problem with CW shows! LOL

Yeah, that's why I tend to avoid them. But I ended up actually really liking Supernatural, and I'd heard really good things about Arrow... so here I am.

message 509: by Nyssa (new)

Nyssa | 2023 comments I did enjoy the first season of Arrow.
I may get back to it eventually.

I've only seen a handful of episodes of Supernatural.

Agreed

message 511: by Ala (new)

Ala | 469 comments Arrow goes less teeny drama angst and more towards ass kicking in the 2nd season, I think. And this season will be some crossover with Flash, so I'm looking forward to that.

Also, I loved Numb3rs. I miss that show.

message 512: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Yeah, we're on ep.10 in season 2 and yesterday I said to Jer that the show's getting a lot better. Now, if they could just get rid of Laurel's character entirely, that would be great. ;D

message 513: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Anyone excited for the premiere of Gotham tonight? The actor they!'be cast to play the Penguin looks like he was born to play the role!

I hope the positive reviews from critics aren't just a collective wish that it's good, I WANT it to live up to the hype...

message 514: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments I know J (my husband) is excited.. He's been tracking the premiere date on our calender for weeks and makes me quickly change the channel whenever a preview for it comes on. He doesn't want to spoil any of the viewing experience.

I'm not particularly excited myself, but I'm going to give it a shot. If I don't like it, it'll just be another show that I read a book during while he watches. Can't hate on extra reading time!

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I feel like I ought to be, but I'm not. I just can't really understand the point of Batman-without-Batman. But I'm willing to be swayed by good word of mouth and do the catch-up thing later on.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments That's sort of how I felt about it.

message 517: by Laurel (new)

Laurel @ Dawn,

I read for most of my boyfriend's TV shows. Great minds think alike!

@ Colleen,

I don't know if this will help, but I saw an interview with Donal Logue addressing people's concern that Batman wouldn't be in the show. He said we have Batman, he's a kid standing in the rain down some back alley, grieving for the loss of his parents. He went on to argue that the reason people should give the show a try is that it's about the slow burn, the build for each of these characters, including Alfred and Batman. I love character driven stories, so I must say, I'm intruiged!

Anyway, I hope you end up liking it. I want quality genre movies and television to have continued success. More good stuff for us!

message 518: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Pass. I'm still suffering from severe comic hero to film burnout.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Next year they'll do Metropolis about Louis Lane growing up.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Watching Big Bang...picture still holding.

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Is anyone watching 'Galavant'?

When I first saw the trailer I thought it was a full season and was like, "No way will that work", but then I found out it's a limited run thing and gave it a chance.

I've been enjoying it. It's funny and cheesy and doesn't outstay its welcome with 20 minute episodes.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments I saw the opening, may keep up on On Demand.

Grimm is back tonight, they left us with like 3 cliffhangers. They love cliffhangers...I hate cliffhangers.

message 525: by Laurel (last edited Jan 16, 2015 08:37PM) (new)

Laurel I gave up on Grimm, (sadly), a year or two ago. I can't take the whiney, save me, girlfriend. Were she killed off (and yes, I realize I'm advocating for less female characters), I'd consider watching it again. She is the worst!

Rant over :)

On the other hand, Agent Carter is phenomenal!

(oh, and ditto on cliffhangers. Walking Dead is terrible for them!)

message 526: by Mike (the Paladin) (last edited Jan 16, 2015 11:00PM) (new)

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 1381 comments Ohhh...that's changed, a lot. (view spoiler)

I love the show, my favorite that's on now. I'd suggest you give it another shot if you want.

message 527: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments That bit had Jeremy in stitches. One of the songs had me snorting, but I don't remember which one. :(

I heard that if you watch it on OnDemand it includes musical commercials? I've started streaming most shows I miss thru various websites...

message 528: by Paul (new)

Paul Has anyone watched the pilot of Man in the High Castle? From what I've seen it looks really good (the title sequence just creeps me out!) but I don't have Amazon Prime so I haven't see the actual show.

message 529: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Nope. I only just heard about it from the SFF group the other day.

message 530: by Kat (new)

Kat Desi (katdesiwrites) | 54 comments I just started watching Supernatural. A few episodes in on the first season. I have A LOT of catching up to do.

message 531: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments I binge watched Tyrant last weekend. Very good show, though not entirely realistic as a representative of a Middle Eastern country. I enjoyed it though.

message 532: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I love Supernatural. I just got into it when it was on its 9th season. It binges pretty quickly.

***

Grimm has gotten better since (view spoiler)

message 533: by Laurel (new)

Laurel My friend and I were out for a walk last night. (It's like spring in January here in Winterpeg! Sadly, cold weather is on the way). We got onto the topic of our top 5 shows currently airing, (if we had to pare down the PVR). She insisted she needed a top ten...

It made me think of you all. Anyone interested in sharing?

Mine would be Sherlock, Gotham, Orphan Black, Walking Dead, and even though it's new, I think Agent Carter. I'm in love!

What are yours?

message 534: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Game of Thrones
The Walking Dead
True Detective
Fargo
Longmire

Yes, I included Longmire because I read that Netflix is picking it up and will air Season 4 this summer. Means I have to get Netflix.

And yes, I have to give an honorable mention to my favorite reality show: Survivor.

message 535: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Chris, my Dad is getting Netflix for the same reason. He asks me every so often to look up if a release date has been announced ;)

My fave reality show is Face Off!

message 536: by Dawn, Dawnerys, Mother of Modding (new)

Dawn (breakofdawn) | 860 comments Top 5... Hmm.. I'm a sitcom kind of girl...

New Girl
Marry Me
Parks and Recreation
Blackish
Parenthood (only 2 episodes left to watch though, boo!)

message 537: by Mitch (new)

Mitch Weller | 17 comments Just finished Marco Polo on Netflix... I really enjoyed it.. Also finished American Horror Story Freakshow.. It was alright , but my least favorite so far.. The wife and I started AHS Coven last night .. It is the only season I haven't watched yet...

message 538: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Ooh! I heard Marco Polo was good!

message 539: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Nothing wrong with historical dramas. I have a few friends who are threatening to disown me if I don't get to Vikings and Game of Thrones soon.

They've been promoting The Americans quite a bit lately - is it coming back after a hiatus?

message 540: by Laurel (new)

Laurel Oh, I hope you enjoy it! Nice dinner, glass of wine, settle in to (one of ) your favourite shows :)

message 541: by Chris , cookie guilt (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 2450 comments Apparently it already aired, at like 2 am EST this morning.

message 542: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments It's gotta be bad if they're being so secretive about it...

message 543: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Top 5, of those currently airing:

Supernatural
Arrow
Flash
Elementary

I can't decide on a 5th. Maybe Agent Carter or Justified.

message 544: by Laurel (new)

Laurel (Crosses fingers for Agent Carter...)

May I ask, is this the final season for Justified? I've been told it's amazing.

message 545: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Yes, this is the final season... so if I really had to pick, it's stay on my DVR over Carter, 'cause Carter I'd just wait for Netflix, but I've watched Justified faithfully from the start, so I want to be with it 'til the end.

message 546: by Laurel (new)

Laurel I'll have to give it a try.

message 547: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments It's a cool show. Like everything it has it's ups and downs, but Raylan is just effing cool.

We actually sort of started watching it just 'cause it was set in Kentucky, which is were hubby is from. He finds it surreal to watch places that are supposed to be in Kentucky, and point out which ones really are and which ones are all wrong.

message 548: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments Jer says it's "Pretty accurate, although with some "embellishments" as to the rustic nature of some places.

Like Lexington."

Apparently none of it is actually filmed in Kentucky, though, with a lot of the outside sets shot in Pennsylvania. But there's a reason they call the areas outside of the cities 'Pennsyltucky'.

message 549: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments He does comment on the accents a lot, which are sort of all over the place. One episode recently he was like, "Wow, that guy actually almost has a Kentucky accent!"

message 550: by colleen the convivial curmudgeon, Not a book hipster! (new)

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2976 comments I want Raylan, damnit. ;)
