Jason (ancatdubh2) | 104 comments I love the self-referential nature of Part II, so far. Also, the chapters are so much shorter in this section!

Are other people still reading this or is that a wrap for most people?

Carina | 35 comments I'm on catch up. Should be hitting the beginning of Part Two on my birthday (Wednesday) if I am to my schedule. I should be able to post more in the latter part of the week.

Carina | 35 comments Thanks!!

Carina | 35 comments The self-referencing bit at the beginning of this section is amusing - I haven't quite finished yet but am enjoying this more than the end of the first part.

I did find it interesting how Sancho's ingenuity seems to come out around chapters 9-10 here. He never struck me as particularly intelligent in part one.

And I don't think he's going to prove to be all that more intelligent in Part II. I think this was an early example of Cervantes inserting himself, and rather overtly, as an unreliable narrator. He even goes on to explicitly say how the appearance of Sancho Panza as an intelligent person is "apocryphal" and not to trust it. Fascinating stuff.

It would worry me if he suddenly became the fount of all knowledge - but the deception with the three young ladies (saying they were Dulcinea and her handmaidens) seems to be beyond the realm of his intelligence.

Jason (ancatdubh2) | 104 comments I kind of laughed when DQ didn't buy it. It was a pretty amusing role reversal.

I didn't actually look at it in that light... but you're right, it is like the windmills or the sheep.

I think this is the kind of book where it will take me a few re-reads to fully appreciate it.
