A book you've been thinking about writing

My next eBook will be a YA sci fi that I've been thinking about for years now. But I wasn't sure if I'd go back to the idea.

Have you got an idea you keep scrapping but won't go away?

Do you keep that idea in your head, or on paper somewhere?

I've been toying with a sci-fi idea for years that can never seem to get off the ground. It involves a family surviving after the fall of society, but in recent years, there have been so many takes on that same thread that I fear it may be over-played already.

I have a ton of ideas that I get excited about. One is a vampire trilogy. I have a time travel story idea. I have one idea that involves a character that is cursed at birth and ends up roaming the earth as a loner searching for revenge. I have an idea that involves grim reapers. I have an idea for a book that involves alien abductions. I think about them all from time to time. I will probably end up writing them all at some point, but all I have thus far is good beginning ideas. I haven't gotten far enough with any of those ideas. Thinking about it, a lot of these stories involve demons and angels at some point.

I have a YA half completed, and three other only just begun ideas written out too ... I'll probably get them all covered at some point. I have to employ severe discipline with this brain of mine, or I might not manage to get any finished :) I have to focus on one at a time, but at least if I'm in the mood for something different to my current project's needs, then I can jot down what's flowing, and I know I can go back to it later. Writing is my lifeblood. If I'm not writing I'm reading, and if I'm not reading I'm writing. At some point I want to write a book through the eyes of an insane person, but I haven't got there yet, that possibility has been hanging around for a long time. :D

I keep a list of my concepts in the computer and some I am preparing as definite upcoming projects while others are just floating in the background until my mind tells me to write them. I still have the 3rd novel in my sci-fi series, a YA fantasy novel, then my epic fantasy series, coming up for certain. After that it gets more nebulous. 3 stand alones connected to the sci-fi story are possible, 2 potential sequels to my YA book could happen. Then there are the concepts that so far have no meat on them: an urban supernatural series could happen, a horror novel, a book of horror short stories.

We'll see which of these become real and which remain in my head.

I have an old idea that I'm super determined to turn into a full novel some day . . . definitely after I'm done with The Calypsis Project.

It's a fantasy story featuring a cast of dire wolves, dragons, gryphons, owls and many more creatures -- mythological and otherwise. These creatures thrive together as a pack and rule over a large island known as Curumbasa.

The idea for the story is about five and a half years old. Due to this, the plot and the majority of the characters require a lot of reworking. It was massively inspired by Erinn Hunter's "Warriors" series, which followed several clans of cats.

Hopefully when I'm done giving it a makeover, I'll have something worth expanding into a full series! :)

I actually gets ideas while working on my current MS. Character's I'd like to write about..later. Spin offs from the series I'm currently on.

So many stories to write and so little time to write them all in.

A couple of years ago my daughter's dear friend killed himself. We both took it very hard and ever since then, the idea of writing a novel about a teen suicide has been stuck in my head. I just needed time to digest what happened for real first. I am finally writing but would appreciate any comments you may have on this: The way I want to write this book is by an internal dialogue between the main character and his inner voice, sort of a "Why" and "What events lead to his decision" where the inner voice is more of the voice of reason while the teen acts like a typical teen - with no concept of consequences. I also plan not to define the character in terms of precise age (other than a teen), gender or name (other than initials). I am basically trying to let the reader (whether a girl or a boy) identify with my main character. What do you think? Is this a bad idea? I know that is hard to write and I have to be careful, but so far, it's been interesting. I appreciate any comments!!! Thanks!

I think it could be an interesting idea.

I think it would have to have a positive outcome though. I don't think I'd have liked to related to a character, when I was going through my rough patch, and have it lead to death anyway. I only say that because the people who are drawn to stuff about suicide are either in the throws of depression or have gone through similar things in the past.

@ Yveta: Pavarti K Tyler wrote an excellent book called 'White Chalk' - it isn't a happy ending, but she pulled it off, and even though I was sad for the MC I could handle it. She put resources in the back of the book for people in similar situations. I heartily recommend you take a look. (And no, I don't have any invested interest here) :) I really hope it comes together for you. :3

Thanks guys for the comments. I do have a synopsis and no, my character won't die in the end. This is more the dialogue that reveals how teens think and what pressures they face these days. My main inspiration came when I watched all the Facebook posts my daughter's classmates posted over the year. I learned a lot from everybody. So, we'll see... I will definitely check out White Chalk. I read another book called 13 Reasons Why which was an interesting one on tis subject.

@Margo That's interesting because the story I've been thinking about doing is a Titus Andronicus retelling as a space opera. I have exactly one plot point figured out. But I'm a long way from working on it. I have four other novels I'm working on first.

I have an idea for a Sifi romance. I have been wanting to write it but I am working on a novel right now. I felt it was best to finish to finish one before starting another: then again Tarentino was writing Reservoir Dogs and stopped writing that to write Pulp Fiction...so maybe I could atleast start the story ( or atleast an outline) and see where it takes me.

Science fiction murder mystery. I keep writing a few pages of first scenes but it doesn't grab me by the throat.

I've just had an idea for a Sci-fi mystery. But I really need to give it some thought. I've always wanted to write Sci-fi.

It's hard. But it's the genre in which I'm best-read. Thus it's a good place to be.

I've got an idea that I want someone else to write. A thriller set in 2114 where the protagonist has to sort through now-defunct social media updates (like Twitter and FaceBook *wink*) to discover a secret his or her great-grandmother was hiding.

I can't see myself writing something like that, but I'd love to read this tale. Who's up for it? :)
