I LOVE LOVE LO..."
You joined! :D Glad you decided to! :)
Okay, I know this is random as hell to post on the introductions thread, but... Ah, I need help from you guys!!!
I was just sitting talking with a girl and two guys about Richard Armitage (as you do) and the girl commented on how strange it was that every actor in the Hobbit looked far better with long hair and a beard. I disagreed, saying that Richard did look great in dwarven style, but not as good as without the long hair and beard. Meeting with a rebuff, I quickly called up pictures of Armitage in North and South, showed them to the others, and dared them to tell me, after seeing those, that he looked better with a beard... And they did! :O I was stunned. They said he looked rather more classy without it, but still not as good looking as when he did have a beard.
Please, please, someone tell me I'm right on this! I don't deny Richard looked awesome as a dwarf - he always looks handsome, of course - but surely not as good as Thornton? Help!

Haha, I don't have anything against beards in particular, nor do I like them overly, it really just depends on the person sporting the beard. With Richard? Definitely prefer his North and South look to his dwarf look, though he does look good in both instances.
So just to clarify: what is your vote, Louise? Thornton or Thorin hairstyle?
So just to clarify: what is your vote, Louise? Thornton or Thorin hairstyle?

That makes complete sense. :) I've seen him in a couple of interviews with the Thorin beard and not the hair, and it doesn't look quite right, I don't think. :P

:O Abby, you traitor. :P
Yes, he looks good with a beard - of course he looks good, he's Richard Armitage - but I think he looks so much better without it. If Thornton's beardless look isn't good enough for you, go look up Richard as Gisborne, where he's either clean shaven or has a very light beard. That should convince you, I would think. It's almost unfair how darkly handsome he looks as Gisborne...
Ha, we've all fallen into that trap at one time or another! Have fun trying to tear yourself away from the photos. :P

Um... I think he looks pretty great either way! ;) I do love beards, though... And I really like that first pic that Abigail posted. ;) But he looks great as Thornton too. *sigh* I can't decide... :/

Indeed! I know what I prefer, clearly, but I'm quickly realising the issue is different or more difficult for quite a few people. (Dammit Abby, why did you have to post pictures? Why?! :D)
Hehe, maybe I should post some good pictures of Richard as Thornton and Gisborne, later... A counter attack in the "beard vs. no beard" war, so to speak. :P But I think one thing we can all agree on is that Richard Armitage always looks great... Period. End of story. :)

*giggles* Oh Kate, I should have known you would do this to me! You haven't been back very long, and already I'm having to try desperately hard not to laugh out loud in inappropriate places! In this case, it's the library, so I really have to restrain myself.
In answer to your question, I've no idea who counts as the Swiss in this war: maybe Richards not-completely-clean-shaven look, as Gisborne in the latter part of the series? (I'm sorry, I just hate using the word stubble, no matter how much easier that would make my sentence phrasing. :P) I'm quite in favour of that look too, actually...
*wipes streaming eyes* Oh good Lord... Fitzbeardiam... John Cleanshave Thornton... Bvnb... You win, Kate. I've completely lost it. :D :D :D You do this to me on purpose, don't you?

:D I believe Anne, Soph and I were all discussing his eyes on another thread... Can't remember which, though...
Dammit, I really wish I wasn't on my iPad right now! Because it's irritating trying to post pictures onto a thread from an iPad. I can't get to my laptop until this evening, but I swear as soon as I can get a hold of it I will post some counter-pictures to Abby's. *determined face*

Well, maybe I'll redeem myself with this. I'm finally home, and can post my response to dear Abigail's pictures! I've been wanting to do this all day...

~Guy of Gisborne:
... And if that doesn't do it, I don't know what will. :P
In any case, I think the score stands at:
~ Beard and/or Thorin 'look': 2 Votes
~ No Beard (more or less): 3 Votes
~ Undecided: 1 Vote
(Ah, hell, I'll be looking at pictures of Gisborne for hours now...)

Can I say just that horse is beautiful as well? :P

You really do! I got it just under a couple of weeks ago, and I was so excited I watched all three seasons in a week. The whole series was quite good, but Richard was stunning, as per usual. Not to mention its sort of fun watching him riding around and sword fighting in black leather. :P
It is, yes! Totally agree with you. :)

The eyes just make it so much more difficult to decide, don't they? I think he'd suit a Georgette Heyer hero well - it'd be great to see him in something that is first and foremost a romance - but I don't know which one... Hmm, this needs some serious thought. :)

So, with his normal hair style, I think I prefer the clean shaven look or just a little bit of scruff. ;)
Good position to take, Aery. :) I completely agree with you on all those points, I'm just a little more firmly in the no beard and/or 'scruff' (as you put it) camp. I just think it looks a teensy but better than the Thorin look. So yeah, me too, with the normal hair style I prefer clean shaven or 'just a little bit of scruff'. :)
P.S. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe your second picture is of Richard as Gisborne... So does this mean you do or you don't like his Guy of Gisborne look? :P

(What with all these pictures of Richard appearing, I get the feeling people are going to be viewing this thread quite a bit... :D)

I don't like his Guy of Gisborne hair style. That pic of him on the horse is esp. unflattering... :/ I chose that 2nd pic because it showed off his scruffy facial hair & absolutely gorgeous eyes so nicely. ;)
Ah, I see. :) I didn't mean to choose an unflattering picture, I actually quite like it! Though perhaps the context also makes it more appealing... Anyway, I absolutely love his Gisborne hairstyle, myself. *shrug* Your second picture does show off those things remarkably well. :) I think part of the object of my Guy of Gisborne picture was also to show off the costume, which I like. Hmmm, perhaps you'd like his Robin Hood Series 3 hairstyle better, it's a bit longer there... I might post a picture later, I don't have time at the moment.

Sylvester maybe? or The Devil's Cub?
He might do as Sylvester, actually! I can imagine that, having heard him read the audio book. Not sure he has the eyebrows, though... :P
I haven't read The Devils Club yet, what's the hero like in that?

I've always really loved Dominic, he's got a dangerous streak but he's honourable... sexy, confidant with underlying menace?
Oh, I know they could do that with make up. :) I'm just trying to imagine how Richard would look with eyebrows such as those Sylvester is described to have.
Sounds like Richard could definitely do that one! Clearly Devils Club is yet another Georgette Heyer novel I must add to my reading list.

So, as promised, for Aery's benefit (okay, who am I kidding, it's for my own benefit, but you all know me well enough to realize that if someone gives me any excuse to look through Richard Armitage pictures for half the day, I'm going to take it :P), here's a picture of Richard as Guy of Gisborne, but in Season Three where he has a bit of a wardrobe change, and his hair is in a different, longer style. Hopefully people like this one better... and don't call it "especially unflattering"... Aery... *rebellious muttering*...

Sorry, Becca. :/
... I can resist throwing something at you. Just. I can do this...
Meh, I tried. :P Nothing is going to move me from my opinion that:
1. Richard Armitage looks better clean shaven or with a small amount of facial hair, and
2. He looks awesome as Gisborne. I don't care what anyone else says, I love his entire look in that series, the costume, the hairstyle... everything.

(Also, I didn't expect to have such a response to my off-hand-ish question about Richard's hairstyle, but I'm having great fun reading everyone's opinions and responses to this extremely important issue! Thanks everyone. :) )
They are all very good pictures! In my defence, there are an awful lot to choose from, there were about a hundred I would have loved to have posted, including some of those. ^^ Evidently you favour those pictures where he has some sort of smile - which I love, but I also like those pictures where he looks very dark and brooding. :)
And I still do like his hair!!! :P :D

So, yes, I prefer his smiles! And you prefer his glares..? ;P

lol! Sorry... just couldn't resist! ;P
