Hey guys sorry I didn't get to start when I said I would :(
But I got a ton of reading done today, all the way through Chapter 20 (We Visit the House of the Helpful Hippo). I have a few burning questions concerning the book.
(view spoiler)[ How did Sadie and Carter manage to convince the parents of a bunch of little kids to give up their children to a sketchy preteen magic academy in an invisible house in New York? Seriously, do the initiates all have incredibly neglecting parents?

Also, how do Sadie and Kane know Apophis is about to rise? I didn't see any warning signs, though I might have missed that part of the book.

Here's what I really don't understand. Walt's family has been cursed since ancient times to make every member die before they reach adulthood. Considering that, how can there still be a continuing family line? Did all of Walt's ancestors have teen pregnancies or something?

So if anyone could clear that up for me I'd be much obliged.
I don't know if I like Anubis or Walt better. Difficult choice for Sadie! (Although she really shouldn't be choosing either, since she's thirteen and they're both quite a bit older. Am I the only one who thinks she's too young to be juggling two guys already?)

Those are some very good questions. It seems like when dealing with parents in a lot of YA books, you have to suspend your disbelief because they are never around. Ever. As for Walt vs. Anubis, I think I would go with Walt just because she can actually have a future with him. Assuming the curse is ever broken. (hide spoiler)]

That whole "suspension of disbelief" is often lost on me because I'm a natural critic...
But yes, I see that in a lot of children's and YA fiction too.
