Leslie Gornstein | 1 comments In my latest episode, I just ranted for about three minutes on everything I dislike about genre and YA books...and then I asked people to recommend something I might like.

I now realize that I may be acting a little ... unfair. Or maybe not. I can't tell anymore. The discussion starts around minute 29 here:

Am I the pickiest person on the planet or are there others like me?

AM I ALL ALONE?

Nope! I'm with you! I have an average rating of 2.27 and it's really not good, but not so many books fascinate me, either.

We suffer a lot!

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 126 comments You're not too hard. You're the consumer and it's entirely your call to set whatever standards you like for how you review.
Now, I'm the opposite and find something to love in nearly all books. That doesn't mean I'm doing it right and you're doing it wrong. Just that we're doing it differently.

What he said. I try to give books genuine chances some books are just terrible books. Doesn't change it even if they get glowing reviews it just means they have different tastes. (Or may be from another planet. ;) )

Tanya Mcmahon | 5 comments I do the same thing. But some books are just awful. Especially some book series. It's like they write a stand alone book, get a publishing deal and desperately churn out two or three more. I am always wary of series but some like Immortal Beloved by Cate Tiernan and the Demon Trappers by Jana Olivier are genuinely very good.

Oh I love the Immortal Beloved series. And I totally agree with you. It seems as if the longer a certain series gets, the worse the writing, characters, and plot become. This isn't always the case with series that have a lot of books (Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series is amazing) but definitely authors like Cassandra Clare really churn out the books over and over for money.
