1. carry a notebook around with you everywhere! I carry a medium sized moleskine around everywhere especially school and whenever I start daydreaming, I write it down in words. A lot of times, I'll find that my daydreams are connected and I eventually make it into a story!
2. Share your stories! You won't want to and will say to yourself 'this story is really bad I'll just wait until I finish my next one and post that one' but trust me once you start that game, it's hard to stop. Pretty much anyone you share with (even if it's only one person at first) will offer you constructive criticism!
3. Don't be afraid of criticism! The vast majority of people out there in the world are good people who are very nice. There are a few bad apples but if they bash on your story's, show them up! :D
Wow what great advice Laura, also the more experience you get with writing, whether its a short funny story, or made up of things you see and experience, make you a better writer so write all the time, whenever you can, practise makes perfect :)
Laura has most of it down. I really like the first. I carry around a little notebook. My idea:
1. Keep a notebook by your bed when you go to sleep. Sometimes you'll wake up with an awesome idea in the middle of the night and you'll want to right it down.
Yeah, it's just an add-on to Laura's but I couldn't think of anything else.

I second that! You could have the best dream ever that could end up being a really good story but you have to get it down quick! I know I forget almost all my dreams within like 30 mins of waking up!
Yea. Mine is more like 5 minutes, actually......

Guys. Check this out. I found this newsletter that has a short story contest. Whoever wins gets their short fiction story published and $500. There is a $15 dollar entry fee, but personally I think that's a risk I can take because it's a chance of getting published. If there is no winner in the end, you'll be refunded. Check it out:
The website link
There are also other contests that do not require a entry fee but the prize isn't money
