Gillian Flynn is amazing! She only has 3 books published and her writing seems a bit darker than Jodi's, but her books have crazy plot twist that keep you hooked.
I highly recommend Chris Bohjalian. Many of his books are very close to Jodi's, especially The Sandcastle Girls and Secrets of Eden.
I love Flynn! I've read all 3 & was left blown away by all of them. sharp objects left me speechless for what seemed like a whole weekend ha. thank you all for the recommendations..I feel like there's hope for getting over this book hangover after all
How about Amy Hatvany, Lisa Genova or Jojo Moyes...I read some of the most emotional and heartbreaking books that I've ever come across from those authors.I would suggest Me Before You by Jojo Moyes, Love Anthony by Lisa Genova, and Best Kept Secret by Amy Hatvany...all great books!
If you're that curious, I've written reviews about all three books...
I second the suggestion of Barbara Delinsky. Although I favor her earlier work. I loved Flirting with Pete, The Summer I dared, Twilight Whispers, A Women Betrayed and Peyton Place.
I have to agree that Flynn's novels are phenominal, as long as the darker subject matter works for you. I read all three and could not put them down. Unfortunately, there really is no substitution for Picoult though.
Diane Chamberlain would've been my top recommendation and although I haven't read Necessary Lies or Cypress Point. I recently read 'One Breath Away' by Heather Gudenkauf and was impressed. There is also a British author called 'Dorothy Koomson' whose later work I like (although her earlier stuff doesn't seem to be quite as good). Margaret Leroy is sometimes compared to Jodi and Diane style-wise but I've only read one of hers, the title of which eludes me right now...! I bought a Diane Chamberlain at similar time and the covers and titles were so similar that I always get them my mixed up. It's about a Mother and her little girl who she suspects has a past life. Hope that helps!
Although more on the murder-mystery side, Gillian Flynn is an incredible writer. I have also found myself engrossed in novels by S. J. Bolton; she has a detailed writing style similar to Picoult and you can never figure out the ending! Really though, there is no one to "replace" Picoult. Just need to accept that she can only write so fast ;]
I don't read many chick lit books other than Jodi Picoult, who is my favourite author, but I recently tried My Best Friends Girl and Ice Cream Girls by Dorothy Koomson and loved them so maybe give one of her books a try. Hope that helps :)
Heather Gudenkauf is just such an amazing writer and when I had finished all of JP's books, I felt bereft. Heather'a books were just the fix.
Anita Shreve, as someone else mentioned... Michelle Richmond is also wonderful! Some others are: Joyce Maynard , Tracey Garvis Graves, Lisa Genova. Oh! And I very much enjoyed The Light Between Oceans, it's the only book by ML Stedman.
I read a book a while back that I found was somewhat similar to Jodi Picoult's. The book is After by Amy Efaw. I really liked it.It can't replace Jodi's books though.
Me before you by JoJo Moyes was excellent. And Kristin Hannah is one of my favorites - try Night Road and Homefront
Nicholas Sparks, Tomi Adeyemi, Richelle Mead
