Sandra, it seems many people either loved or hated Moby Dick. King himself didn't care for it. Thanks Sarah, more than halfway through Joyland and enjoying it.
Thanks Tasha.I've been meaning to read books by all the auhors in King's family and this year I'm finally doing it!
I just finished The Shining and loved it. Some of us are putting together a buddy read for Doctor Sleep towards the end of January. You're welcome to join in whenever you get to Doctor Sleep. I think we're all going to be reading it at different times, but the thread will be there to discuss.

OK, cool Janice. It might be good timing. Joyland will be finished quickly and then it's The Shining (3rd time reading it although it's been a while) and then Doctor Sleep.
Josee wrote: "Thanks Tasha.I've been meaning to read books by all the auhors in King's family and this year I'm finally doing it!"I've had the same thing in mind, but their books are connected much farther down into Taz's territory and Beyond!
Josee wrote: "Link - related to previous author..."Wow. Now that's some impressive linking. I'm catching up with the list threads and noting clever links. I think yours may take the cake! :)
Thanks E:) but it really wasn't difficult as they all belong to the same family :)Well, change of plans, I just received Small Worldas an interlibrary loan (couldn't find a copy of this book locally)so I'll be reading this before getting to The Shining and Doctor Sleep.
Maybe it's the literary family itself that's so impressive! Though you're being very humble, I bet it took some research on your part to trace over those connections. :) Have you read The Shining before? I'm asking because you seem to be a committed SK fan, and that's one of his most popular. Personally I've never read anything by SK, and I'm hoping The Shining might be a good place to start. SK is another author that is almost synonymous with "chunkster" in my mind.
I'll be re-reading The Shining after many, many years. Maybe a buddy read thread would be good for that one. I bet there are a lot of good things to discuss with that one!
Yes indeed E:) I'm a big Stephen King fan so I've known for a while that his wife and 2 sons are writers. I found out fairly recently though that his daughter-in-law is also a writer. I got that info from this article: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/08/04/mag...I think someone posted this in the Books Stephen King Recommends group.
I'll be reading The Shining for the third time but it's been a while since I last read it. I wanted the story to be fresh in my mind before reading Doctor Sleep. Yes, SK certainly has a lot of chunksters! I think my very favorite from him is The Stand. The uncut hardcover edition is 1,153 pages. Misery is also up there for me. This one is much smaller at 310 pages :)
A buddy read for The Shining sounds like a good idea Tasha. When are you planning on reading it? I'll probably be starting toward the end of the month.
Unfortunately it won't be until later, probably in MM. Maybe if enough people are planning to read it we can just have an open thread for it. :)
Josee, that's very cool, thank you for sharing the article link. Also thanks for sharing some of your favorite SK novels. I hope to read The Stand eventually, though maybe not this year. I'd be happy to participate in a buddy read of The Shining. My Jan / Feb are pretty full, but I bet I can squeeze it in anytime after. I'll keep an eye out for this in the buddy reads folder. :)
