Sacrilege! Put up your dukes. ROFL! Just kidding. Differing tastes make for great friends. You can't agree about everything. How boring would it be if we did?

I loved The Stand. But I've actually seen more movies based on his stories than I've read. In fact, it's one of only three King novels I've ever read: The Shinging, The Stand, and Cujo. Probably totally grounds for unfriending, but I have 11/22/63 in my sights for one of my chunksters so hopefully this buys me a little mercy ;)

All that said, I cannot rave enough about 11/22/63. I thought it was great!!!

I have always loved these movies and I think I do have all three books on my reading list (at least Shawshank and The Green Mile - I will look and see if I have Stand By Me). I just have never gotten to them yet.
It is so amazing how many of his books have been made into movies! He is such a part of our culture.

Not to worry, Cherie, I haven't read The Stand either.

I´m sorry Marnie, I saw your post only now. The kite runner definitely is one of those books that will never let me go, I guess. I read And the Mountains Echoed only shortly after (which was the mistake probably) and compared to the first one it could not nearly compete (from my point of view).
I don´t think I will watch the movie. When watching the mnovie of a book I liked, I mostly get disappointed simply because the characters don´t look like I imagined them etc. This is probably narrow-minded but still... Are you planning to watch it?

No I couldn't watch The Kite Runner. It was not a story I wanted to revisit though I loved the book.

Congrats on completing two levels so far!
I read most of King's earlier books, but reached a point where it felt like he was pulling old, not so good, stuff out of a drawer and publishing. The Stand is one of my all-time favorite books, it still holds it's place after all these years. 11/22/63 is the only book of King's I've read in a long time, and I enjoyed it immensely.
I keep thinking about watching the movie The Kite Runner, but after the book, my stomach clenches in a dreadful anticipation.
I was pleasantly surprised by The Housekeepr too. Can't wait to see what others you've read and what you think of them.
