Me neither! And I like Stephen King! I did start it about 15 years ago but didn't get very far but I wasn't much of a reader then. I do want to read it though.

Cherie wrote: "Oh, my gosh. Did I just admit that I have never read The Stand? Kingish? If anyone wants to unfriend me, I will understand ."I loved The Stand. But I've actually seen more movies based on his stories than I've read. In fact, it's one of only three King novels I've ever read: The Shinging, The Stand, and Cujo. Probably totally grounds for unfriending, but I have 11/22/63 in my sights for one of my chunksters so hopefully this buys me a little mercy ;)
I have seen more movies than I have read of King's books, but I have not seen the movie of either Cujo or The Stand. My daughter teases me about Carrie all the time because I won't watch it. I hated IT, but that is one of the few where I did read the book - after seeing the movie. Still scared the heck out of me! NO WAY was I going to read Misery, after seeing the movie. One time was enough! I do not think I have ever sat through The Shining all of the way through. I always freak out and turn it off. Delores Claiborne was not too scary and I kind of like watching The Tommy Knockers. I can do strange, just not scary. All that said, I cannot rave enough about 11/22/63. I thought it was great!!!
Cherie, try The Green Mile and/or Different Seasons. Two of the novellas in Different Seasons, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption: A Story from Different Seasons and Stand by Me are amazing stories.
Funny, I repeated that recommendation to Pragya in another thread, and now I want to read it again. I loved Shawshank Redemption - both in the book and the movie.
I've seen Shawshank Redemption LOTS and Stand By Me a couple times so it would be good to read the stories behind them. I used to have The Green Mile and started reading it after the film came out but I kept comparing the two and my head got confused so I stopped. I think I'll give it another go (I'm much more of a reader now than I was back then).
I saw the movie, The Green Mile, and then read the book. I thought that this was one book where the movie was almost word for word to the book. But then, Stephen King was heavily involved with the screenplay.

I just have never gotten to them yet.
It is so amazing how many of his books have been made into movies! He is such a part of our culture.
Your right that they are pretty similar - I think that was possibly the problem as when there were some differences they stood out more so - I vaguely remember the mouse appearing at a different time or something like that!
I bought The Passage this past summer. I thought it was horror, dystopia, sci-fi-ish, right up my alley, but I guess I missed the vampire part ( not really into vampires or zombies). I'll still give it a go. I was going to see if I could fit it into my chunkster challenge. Not to worry, Cherie, I haven't read The Stand either.
I felt the same way Alexandra- couldn't even watch the movie because I didn't want to revisit those emotions ( even though I heard great things about it). Are you planning on seeing the movie?
Thanks a lot, Janice. There were quite a few books that I liked a lot but I really loved The Help. The Kite Runner still has me thinking about it, getting goose-bumps, and I likedThe Housekeeper and the Professor more than I thought I would...

Are you planning on seeing the movie?"I´m sorry Marnie, I saw your post only now. The kite runner definitely is one of those books that will never let me go, I guess. I read And the Mountains Echoed only shortly after (which was the mistake probably) and compared to the first one it could not nearly compete (from my point of view).
I don´t think I will watch the movie. When watching the mnovie of a book I liked, I mostly get disappointed simply because the characters don´t look like I imagined them etc. This is probably narrow-minded but still... Are you planning to watch it?
Great job on completing Slick- looks like you had a lot of good reads. I really enjoyed The Housekeeper and the Professor too.No I couldn't watch The Kite Runner. It was not a story I wanted to revisit though I loved the book.
Trying to catch up on way too many threads here. Congrats on completing two levels so far!
I read most of King's earlier books, but reached a point where it felt like he was pulling old, not so good, stuff out of a drawer and publishing. The Stand is one of my all-time favorite books, it still holds it's place after all these years. 11/22/63 is the only book of King's I've read in a long time, and I enjoyed it immensely.
I keep thinking about watching the movie The Kite Runner, but after the book, my stomach clenches in a dreadful anticipation.
I was pleasantly surprised by The Housekeepr too. Can't wait to see what others you've read and what you think of them.
