What's on your mind? Anything you'd like to chat, rant or cheer about....share it here!

Let's see if I can explain this clearly...

You know how when you use the add book/author tool here in a post the cover or link inserts at the very end, no matter where you place the cursor? Well, GR has fixed that!! It now inserts where you've placed the cursor!!

It wasn't a big issue but a real pain when you were posting multiple books.

message 3: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Which would be awesome if the "add book/author" function was actually working. That and a lot of other links/functions on the site have not been working for me since late last night, and they were just fine yesterday afternoon -- and I know I'm not alone. I had a hard time marking the book I finished yesterday as "read" and have not been able to rate it at all. Seems like this is becoming a monthly issue for GR. It's been happening about every 4-6 weeks lately.

Here's a link to where the problem was reported. Seems like it may be browser related as I'm not having an issue with Safari.

message 5: by Heather L (new)

Heather L (wordtrix) Thanks for the link, Jonetta. It usually is browser related (and in this case looks like it's not only IE), but has been happening all too frequently lately. I added more info on the problem, since it isn't only the "add book/author" function not functioning. Methinks they need to start doing better testing before rolling out changes to the site.

message 6: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
Methinks you're right! This kind of stuff should be caught in testing.

Great idea to have this chat thread, Jonetta! My rant right now - one of my kids is still awake at 11:30 p.m. Tomorrow morning is quite likely to suck.

On a happier note, my husband just baked me a pumpkin pie and it smells so good! He's too good to me considering I accidentally started a fire in our kitchen the other day. It was small and I put it out quickly but still a little scary.

How is everyone else doing?

message 8: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
Your husband bakes??? That's fantastic!

How in the world did you start a kitchen fire?

message 9: by Sheery (new)

Sheery (wwwgoodreadscomprofilesheery) | 726 comments Mod
My husband cooks, too. He's far more crafty in the kitchen that I am. Thank goodness! The pumpkin pie is delicious, too. :)

Ah, the fire. I put a bowl I thought was microwave-safe into the microwave. There was a weird clunking sound and when I investigated, there was a small fire inside, on the cover and the ring of the bowl. It was weird and freaky. It was easy to put the fire out and thankfully the microwave didn't explode and still works. I freaked out my kids (and myself)though. And I've barely used the microwave since. It works but I'm a bit untrusting of it now.

Is everyone ready for the holidays? I have a little more shopping to do and a few crochet gifts to finish making. Overall I'm good though and not too stressed out. :)

message 10: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments I'm ready!!!! Last gift I was waiting for came in the mail today , 2 boxes, 2 large envelopes sealed and ready for UPS tomorrow, all gifts bought and wrapped, cards mailed out!! In my family we do a BIG Xmas brunch instead of a big dinner , I do the brunch, most of the "stuff" I need for the brunch bought already( except for the fresh food items). Tree up on Saturday :) now I can enjoy the season !

My daughter and I gave each other an early gift last weekend, matching tattoos! My 1st her 2nd.

Only bummer thing right is she's home sick with stomach bug, I guess about 90% of her dorm has it. Luckily because she's close to home, she able to stay here and will just go back in the am to take her last 2 finals. Nothing like your own couch and tv at home when you 're sick .

We are getting dumped on here in Greensboro NC. Praying we don't lose power. If we do, all my readers are loaded up and fully charged:)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 213 comments Yes...it's snowing so hard I can't see out across my yard! It's beautiful but so very slick and dangerous driving out there!

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
I ran my last errands this morning. We've got everything we need for at least the next three days. What's your forecast?

message 14: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 213 comments I ran all my errands early too. Hubby was out and even in a jeep, he said it was very slick with cars in ditches everywhere. I'd say we have 4 or 5 inches already. I think they are now saying up to around 8" with some ice on top. It's beautiful but I'm afraid it's going to hang around for a few days with temps so cold.

message 15: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 213 comments I stand corrected - we have 6" already...just tried to clean some off my deck and couldn't believe how deep it already is. And it's supposed to do this through midday tomorrow!?

message 16: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
Yep! I think 12" is the least we will get.

message 17: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments It's heading our way, supposed to start in Ct 5-7 am. We are expecting 5-12 inches depending on when it changes over to rain. Very tired of winter :/

message 18: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
This is the first time our region has gotten some real snow this winter. I imagine you and others are sick of this.

message 19: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments We are expecting ice too. Ran to the library just before it closed to get some books they were holding for me and my librarian said," I'm so glad you here before we closed, we're already closed tomorrow and will probably be closed Friday." I had to go to 3 stores to get milk , every time it snows milk is no where to be found. We have been told to expect power outages( fortunately for me, the city where I live very rarely loses power).

message 20: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
I did my grocery shopping earlier this week. We often lose power, too, so I have everything charged and a ton of books downloaded to my Kindle (I normally read from my Nook using the Kindle app)as I can read from that for weeks.

message 21: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments I can't tell you how tired if winter I am !! I'm a preschool teacher, between the very cold temps and the deep snow(that's not melting because of the cold) we have been stuck inside since early January. But that's winter in New England. This time of year, most of start complaining, until we watch the news and see how the snow cripples the southern states. Then we TOUGH New Englanders brag about how we drive through a ft of snow every day, uphill both ways to get to work all winter!!!! Lol

message 22: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments Charging up now!!! Just in case.

message 23: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Wow, wish we would get snow, just a dream. Really hot here, high 30's Celsius here in NSW (Aust). Time for swimming!

Sheery (wwwgoodreadscomprofilesheery) | 726 comments Mod
I'm so sorry for all of you that are snowed/iced in. I hope you're all warm and safe. This has been the strangest winter. We have had one day of rain and are suffering drought conditions - while the rest of the country gets hammered. It's ridiculous!

message 25: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
It is pretty strange. My city has suffered from drought conditions many summers over the past 18 years since I've lived here but in the last five years, the weather pattern has changed drastically and our water issues have pretty much gone away. That's unusual as it's a piedmont region.

message 26: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Yeah rained overnight finally! Much needed, very dry Summer. Hope those affected by the snow are ok. My friends in Virginia are preparing again.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
It started snowing again about four hours ago. This will put another 3"-4" inches on top of our 7". All is okay as we haven't lost power and just about everything is closed.

My family lives in Northern Virginia (near Washington DC area) and they already have 11" with more to come.

Here's the latest photo.

message 28: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments So far we've gotten about 7 inches and luckily it hasn't rained as much as expected so we don't have much ice. We are supposed to get a few more overnight, but it's not to bad right now. Very few power outages so far, keeping my fingers crossed.

message 29: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments We now have lighting and very loud thunder, normally I love thunder storms but it's a little creepy in the middle of a snow storm.

message 30: by Jonetta (new)

Jonetta (ejaygirl) | 7081 comments Mod
I forget what that means....

message 31: by Sandra (new)

Sandra Hoover (sandrahoover) | 213 comments It means another snow storm will occur in 7 (or is it 9) days. (it's an old saying)

Ohh...thundersnow! That's always fun, especally as you typically get 3x the snow when it thunders.

message 35: by Maggie (new)

Maggie | 954 comments @Heather, we did end up with more snow the predicted, but luckily only about 5 inches more. We only got about 2 inches last night thank goodness.

message 36: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 96 comments Hey everybody. I'm Jennifer. I'm so glad I've found this book club. I joined a couple of hours ago and have attacked the boards. I haven't read every NR book but the ones I have read are the ones I read over and over again. I tend to rant and rave about things I'm passionate about (heads up) which is really only books... and food. haha

Do any of you get the daily update from Goodreads? If so, did you see they've added advertisements in it.

If this bothers you, voice your opinion in the Goodreads Feedback group. I did and here's the link.

It's a great addition, but would be better served were it at TOP of the page, above "Readers also enjoyed" -- where people might actually SEE it -- instead of burying it halfway down the page.
