I AM talking about task completion here. So, to meet criteria for ALL shelves and categories, I might need 15 books on a particular month, rather than 12.

As I understand it, Amanda, you can. In June, for letter R, I have added an extra book to meet the multiple author category. I have 12 books that meet the shelves and all of the categories except the multiple authors, which necessitated an extra, 13th book.
Just checked the rules and #5 reads:
A Qualified Book must have the month's initial and
a. be on the month's Shelf; or
b. match the month's Category.
The shelf "or" category confirms that you can read for just a category.

Nice when you get books that hit 3 categories ( which I can usually swing a couple of books each month ), but I often have one or two left over ( but, as I often don't know if the have multiple POV or what the cover looks like before I start reading, there is still a chance that they may still be ticked off ) . I do know that the multiple author one in June was not going to match any shelves, so I have a book in mind that doesn't match shelves, but will work otherwise.
Thanks for your help :)

My pleasure :-)

I have all my shelves for P, but not all my categories. I am reading The Pure Gold Baby, and it doesn't match a shelf but it matches cat. h & j, neither of which I have allocated. Can I use it for both, or only one ?
Thanks for any clarification!

oops, sorry I completely missed your Q, Amanda. I don't have a working computer at home so haven't been online for the weekend.
Yes, one book can match up to 3 categories (Rule #6)

Does published in 1980-1999 include editions published during that period? Or does it mean first published in that period?
:) Thanks
What happens when a book has no shelves listed on its main page?

I know not a lot of people have read it, but just from the comments listed below the book, I can see there are at least 4 shelves chosen by people other than me. (I've put it on 5 shelves). But the shelf list isn't shown.
Is it permissible to count it for a basic shelf I already always use, like fiction? (e.g., I wouldn't put it on mystery-and-crime or espionage and expect to count it, since those aren't shelves I usually use.) But if I know it's on fiction because I put it there, does that make it ok?

Dec Card is open til Jan 31st so you probably won't want to read these til Jan so you can read as much for other months' cards in Dec as they're only open til 31st Dec.
