Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments Lots of great Series reading this year!

Lynn is going to be moderating The Black Dagger Brotherhood Series ~ thank you Lynn :-)

I'm really stoked about the Dresden Files reads. I've read the first book already and loved it!

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I'm so happy we are doing these series reads, I've read two Dresden books so far and I love them, I have Black Dagger Brotherhood planned for the next year and I really want to read Oryx and Crake series. So many good reads this next year!

I'm going to do my best to keep up with the Dresden Files series! I have heard that the audios are great so that should help. :)

message 6: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments Those parts that are read by Marsters are truely amazing. I've listened to two of them so far and I love his voice, and his reading style makes the stories lively and gripping. I have the third installment ready to go on my audible account and can't wait to start :)

Excellent! I haven't read any yet. I'm looking forward to starting in January and will plan these as my audio reads for the first half of the year at least (while I'm still in school and driving a lot). :)

Cathie (catitude) | 1511 comments thank the universe for audio books! :-)

If you can get the audios, DO!!! One of the best narrators out there. Only Susan Ericksen doing the "In Death" series is better!!

message 10: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) I *LOVE* the Black Dagger Series. I've read the first Dresden and loved it. Especially with Marsters narrating. I'm planning on getting both of these series via Audible.

Savanes | 2107 comments I'm looking forward to the dresden files too even with so many to read!! :)

I just saw 2 from the trilogy in the calendar... so got a doubt

message 17: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) You're welcome, Misha! I highly recommend these. I read book #2 when it first came out. Margaret Atwood is a treasure. I can't wait to read the ones I've missed.

message 18: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 1467 comments Yes it is the Madd Addam trilogy, not the Oryx and Crake series, but that is what Cathie meant. So excited for these.

Marnie (marnie19) | 116 comments I am hoping to keep up with The Black Dagger Series ( I'm reading the 2 one now...it's like potato chips- impossible to put down :)) and have the first Dresden file on its way from the library. I'm still a little iffy about the Attwood series but there is still time to decide.

Thanks for the audio recommendation Kirsten- I have a credit burning a hole in my pocket :)

message 29: by Anima (new)

Anima Miejska | 1698 comments I've used my credits in audible for Dresden Files for the last three months now, I just got addicted to Marsters's voice and way of narrating this series.

Definitely, I just love his voice and he seems to be really into the story, plus he perfectly differentiates voices of various characters!

I'm in the first chapter of Death Masks, and it is my third audio this week :)

message 33: by Dany (new)

Dany (danyspike) Wait. Marsters as in James Marsters??? Oh my god, WHERE have I been?? *runs to get them*

He does quite a few audiobooks. More and more actors are getting to the game. I have copy of Dracula with Alan Cumming and Tim Curry. Marsters has been doing the Dresden books since Book 1.

I know what I'll be spending my free credit on at Audible next year!

message 35: by Joyce (new)

Joyce I didn't even think to get the audiobook. I ordered the regular book. Darn. Oh well. Maybe book 2. It gives me something to listen to while on the exercise bike. :)

I think I read most of the Black Dagger Series already. I really liked the characters Bella and ... actually most of the characters. I liked the books a lot.

The story of Bella and Zsadist was my favorite too.

MaryReadsRomance (Mary_Reads) | 25 comments Just re-read BDB 1- 3. Was planning to re-read the initial BDB series, along with some new ones pub'ed since my last reading, as a personal goal this year. It has been so long!

Figured the series was old hat by now given its original launch date 2005 and that I would be a bit lonely reading it this time around... Only to discover tonight that, wow, the newest book is being released - and it revisits Beth and Wrath. And I can join other GR friends on the same journey this year and talk about the series along the way as we all get caught up to read the latest pub!

Wow, happy days and Happy New Year to me!

PS I have not read any Dresden books so I will have to look into buying / borrowing those ASAP.

Is there a link to this challenge to actually sign up so GR will track our reads automatically?
Thanks!

Hi Mary, no there is no challenge to specific series reads. However we do have the discussion threads for each of the reads so make sure you join us there.

Edit - I see you already have :)

Stacy okun (stacyo40) | 180 comments I was about to start book #5 in BDB Series. I may wait a bit now, I usually read a book in between them anyway. I consider them my Fluff reads LOL

Rhonda | 6 comments I'm so glad you put the Dresden Files on the list! I don't think that I would have started reading them otherwise, and I loved the first one. Thanks!

Christy (christy123) | 3 comments I made it to Chapter 20 in my audiobook, and I simply could not stay focused - this book did not hold my interest and seemed to just ramble on-and-on in a senseless way. I've heard that each book gets better, so, I'll go on to the 2nd book in the series to find out if this is indeed true.

I think Harry's just a rambling type of guy.

Michelle | 10 comments I'm just coming into the group and have never read (nor even heard of) the Dresden or BDB books. Is it neesary to read them in order like some series or is each book independent? I was hoping to start with the Feb selections.

message 46: by Savanes (new)

Savanes | 2107 comments From the first chapter of Fool Moon (Dresden #2), I think you can try starting with this one. The author does a recap of many things that happened in book #1.

Personally I wouldn't recommend reading BDB as stand alone books. You need to read it as a series and start from the beginning.

However they are easy reads and can zip through the quickly.

message 48: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (darthval) | 411 comments Count me in. I am already up to date on The Shining and the Robert Langdon books.

Toward the end of last year, I had been burning my way through the Dresden Files. I have made it through 10, but have decided to back off so that I read them fresh for this discussion schedule. Well, listen to them, that is. I do love the narration by James Marsters.

As for the Black Dagger Brotherhood, I had previously read the first two books. I figured I would finish the series someday, but it was not really a priority. Just a bit on the cheesy side for me. Once again, I've decided to try to follow along with the group read schedule above, so now I am just waiting for my digital library holds to come through.

Oryx and Crake melds nicely with another book club to which I belong, so that should not be a struggle (unless the library does not have them).

Virginie (chouettblog) | 350 comments I would love to start the BDB series, I am very tempted, but it means I would have to not read other group read and don't know if I can cope with that lol.

Out of the series mentioned, are there any favourites??

message 50: by Lynn, Moderator (new)

BDB series is a lot of fun and quick easy reads Virginie
