There has always been a distinction between programming applications and programming games on Windows Phone. This is because the basic framework for creating applications is different than that used for games. Packt's new book, Windows Phone 8 Application Development Essentials recognizes this difference (see the review for the companion book, Windows Phone 8 Game Development).
The book does a great job of covering the core aspects of app creation. The first chapters cover layout and controls using XAML, followed by several chapters on using the MVVM design paradigm. The book even convers Facebook and Twitter integration. Check it out at http://www.packtpub.com/windows-phone....
