Shannon | 4 comments I read a book about a year or two ago where everyone lived underground but the main character and a friend or group of friends escaped above ground. The main character got a really bad sunburn and the sun really hurt her (I think the main character was female) eyes because they'd never been out int he sun before. They met up with another group of people who'd been living above ground for awhile, or maybe forever. I think one of the people int his group was named Buddy. They discovered indoor plumbing and skyscrapers maybe. I had thought this was an epilogue or small story within WOOL, but I guess I was confusing the two books because I'm re-reading WOOL now and I don't think this happened in that book. The characters would have been teenager-ish I think, and since I confused it with WOOL I'm pretty sure it was written in the past few years.

bookel | 4029 comments Any of these results? Search results for 'kw:underground escape' > '2008..2012' > 'Book' > 'Fiction' > 'English' > 'Juvenile'.
Or these results?

Shannon | 4 comments None of these either. It was probably adult fiction, but it might have been young adult.

"Eleven-year-old Amy lives in a decaying underground city. Ignored by her mother and under surveillance by authorities because she can read, Amy reluctantly finds herself befriending Axel-a strange boy who claims to have come from a mythical place called ...Outside. Is Axel crazy? Amy knows there is no such place as Outside.

But what if there were? What would it be like?

Curious, Amy convinces Axel to escape. What she hopes to find is something Axel remembers called freedom. But what she discovers is beyond her wildest dreams."

Amy got sick from her first exposure to the sun:
"While she had slept, her eyelids had swollen shut"

Is it The People of Sparks?

"The People of Sparks picks up where The City of Ember leaves off. Lina and Doon have emerged from the underground city to the exciting new world above, and it isn’t long before they are followed by the other inhabitants of Ember. The Emberites soon come across a town where they are welcomed, fed, and given places to sleep. But the town’s resources are limited and it isn’t long before resentment begins to grow between the two groups. When anonymous acts of vandalism push them toward violence, it’s up to Lina and Doon to discover who’s behind the vandalism and why, before it’s too late."

It's the second book in the City of Ember series.

Thanks, Lobstergirl.

Katherine Breeggemann | 7 comments Shannon, when they went above ground, were they riding on like a giant hoverboard thing and wearing space suits because they were afraid of the elements and knew they couldn't walk great distances? Also, were they chased by a pack of wolves/wild animals at any point?

I am also looking for a book that kinda matches a description you had. While I haven't found the answer, it'd be nice to know I didn't make it all up in my head. Here is my post that has more detail in case you want to read it to refresh your memory. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
