In honor of 2014 being a bright and shiny new year, the theme for our January group read will be A New Leaf.

You can nominate a book that:

*Is by a new author
*Is the first book in a new series to you
*Is in a new genre/subgenre from what you've read before, so long as it is related to the action/adventure genre in some way.
*Has a secondary character from another series that has been spun off into their own series with that book.
*A book that somehow relates to the theme of a new beginnings.

Each member is allow to make one nomination.

The book must be readily available, in other words, still available to buy new in print, or in ebook.
It should be either the first book in a series or a standalone.

Any past group read books are not eligible for nominations. You can check the list here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

The poll will go up on December 12th.

Lance Charnes (lcharnes) | 226 comments If debut authors count, then I'll nominate The Geneva Decision by Seeley James. It's both his first published novel and the kickoff for a series, as well as a pretty satisfying read.

The Geneva Decision (Pia Sabel #1) by Seeley James

I'm going to nominate Pagan Pagan by Andrew Chapman . It's the first book in a series. I remember Hugh mentioning it in the same sentence with Monster Hunter International...so that's good enough for me. Sounds like it might be a fun read!

Tad (tottman) | 74 comments I'll nominate Created, the Destroyer by Richard Sapir Created, the Destroyer (The Destroyer, #1) by Warren Murphy . It's an oldie, but one I've wanted to read for a while. It has the advantage of being free on the kindle:)

Patricia (pattipunkin) | 267 comments I noinate Atlantis by David Gibbens. I believe this is his first Jack Howard book. Gibbens tells a wild tale, but also has a lot of credibility.
Been there, done a lot of it.

message 6: by Eileen (new)

Eileen So far, good choices! It's going to be hard to pick one.

Oh, The Faithful Spy is great! Even if it doesn't go through as the group read, you should definitely read it, Danielle. I read it years ago. Of course, I haven't gotten around to reading the sequels...sigh...so many books on my TBR!!

Glad to hear you vouch for The Faithful Spy. I actually own a copy, so I will definitely plan on reading it soon, even if it doesn't win.

I know what you mean about not following up on future books in the series. Story of my life!

Magiccats | 285 comments I nominate Doha 12 by Lance Charnes

It was a really thrilling book with a great plot ...... Neither knows the other exists…until the Israeli intelligence agency Mossad uses their identities in an operation to assassinate a high-ranking Hezbollah commander..

Just realized that the nominations are over although wouldn't it make more sense to run it until the new year?

It is just the last year and half that I have become addicted reader jumping on the early E-book train.

Hunter: A Thriller
This was one of the first books I read and was then shocked to learn after I read it that the author was a self-publisher which opened a whole new section of authors to support (and maybe join one day)

The book was great and I enjoyed as much as I have enjoyed the books from Lee Child and Vince Flynn.

@ Ty, we plan out the monthly group read in advance so members will have time to obtain the book in time for the reading process.

You are welcome to nominate in future monthly read nominations though.

Seeley James (seeleyjames) | 367 comments Wow, thanks to everyone who voted for my book
The Geneva Decision (Pia Sabel #1) by Seeley James

Somehow, I missed this thread entirely until a couple of people let me know TGD had been chosen. In honor of the honor, I'll gladly send a free e-book to anyone who doesn't have one, send me an email: seeley@seeleyjames.com

Magiccats, For next month, I second your nomination of
Doha 12 by Lance Charnes
That was a brilliant, unusual, literary, intelligent, and exciting read.

Peace, Seeley
