So I think the idea of all watching a film at the same time and discussing it in real time would be a lot of fun!

I will do a poll for the films - I assume we are limited to films as the series start to get a bit long ;)
Post your suggestions here and I will put them all in a poll.

We also need to decide when it will happen and come to an appropriate time as there will be a lot of time differences going on!

Samanta (almacubana) Great idea! Love it! I just can't think of a movie atm :)

message 3: by Samanta (new)

Samanta (almacubana) Oh...Love actually....one of my all time favorite :)

message 4: by Marcy (new)

Marcy (marshein) Oh I hate that movie. And isn't it supposed to be a Jane Austen film? I was thinking, if we are going to read Emma (?) we could watch a film Emma and compare. Tho I might not get to do the reading of Emma since I just got MaddAddam and cannot put off reading that next.

Irene | 271 comments Sounds really fun!!! I am for Emma too. Maybe the one with mark strong and Kate backhinsale...

Emma sounds like a plan (I was thinking Austen yes)

I would also put my vote in for the Gwyneth Paltrow one.

Emma is a good idea because of the group read so shall i do poll between these two mentioned films?

If this goes well we can do other films :)

Right I will do a poll between Beckinsale and Paltrow :) and then we need to decide when and at what time!

Ok so there are many comments about the BBC series being the best/favourite which I completely agree with.

If this is really the one people want to watch the only way I think it would work would maybe be 2 sessions, 2 episodes each session? (unless 2 hours is too long)

Thoughts!?

message 14: by Irene (new)

Irene | 271 comments The BBC series with Romola Garai? Did you really like that?

message 15: by Maria (new)

Maria | 86 comments I voted for the one with Gwyneth Paltrow but if most people want to see the BBC series, it is fine by me.

message 16: by Anne (new)

Anne | 70 comments I wanted to watch the BBC series after I had read the book, so I would prefer the shorter movies, but if most people want the series that's fine :) I'll just watch it later ;)

Watching the series after is a good suggestion - that way everyone will be happy!

Perhaps, due to the length and the busy time of year, we should stick to a shorter film - which ever one wins the poll :)

Anne | 70 comments Good idea! :D

Haha, oh yes! But I can already imagine how lovely and blissful it would all be! I actually own the BBC version so I'm looking forward to it!

Right so the poll has closed and with 23 votes to 17 is the Gwytheth Paltrow version of Emma!

Sorry Mark Strong fans ;)

Next decisions is when and what time.

As to when, do we think it is getting rather close to this busy time of year, Christmas (I have relations arriving before too long!) and that we should wait until early on in the new year, before the group read of Emma of course ?

This is going to be fun!

message 27: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) I agree that a weekend day in the new year would be best.

message 28: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) We don't all go round saying that at frequent intervals you know ;)

message 29: by Maria (new)

Maria | 86 comments A weekend in January is OK, before the group read :)

No we do not go around saying 'ello govena' all the time - I never say it! ;)

Ok a weekend, definitely, and in the new year when things calm down will be good, but before the group read begins :)

Shall we decide on the date now, so as to give people plenty of warning? I think the two available weekends would be 4/5th or 11/12th (at a push, 18/19th just before the group read on the 20th) :)

????

message 31: by Rachel (new)

Rachel (rachelkisley) I vote for 11th / 12th too, as I'm normally still running around the place with frazzled hair on the 4th / 5th trying to get back to "normality" (whatever that is)!
