Hi all, My name is Joseph Calleja and this is the first group on goodreads that I'm joining.
I began reading books back to back fairly recently, thanks to my wife I have to say, who is a real bookworm, (I had to try it myself). At the beginning, I read some fantasy books and historical thrillers but later on I switched genre to crime fiction/mystery/thrillers (like my wife - so that I may benefit from her hundreds of books and I really like this genre :)).
My only enemy - reading time availability. I try to squeeze a few chapters before I go to work and a few with half my eyelids closed before I go to sleep and after the kids are in bed.
I hope to make some new friends here. Feel free to send me your friend requests, (I need to increase the number of friends). :)

Hi Don, thanks for your welcome. I like Peter James, Stuart Macbride,Mel Comley and Tim Ellis but I like to try new authors from time to time. In fact I have my to read list packed. I like to read indie books as well.

Hi Bill thanks for welcoming me. My wife likes to read Karin Slaughter, Elizabeth George, Jo Nesbo, James Patterson, Peter Robinson, Kathy Reichs, Camilla Lackberg among others. I have all those at my disposition in our library. I would like to read them all but as I said, time is a constraint. I am looking forward to discover more authors thanks to your group. :)

Joseph, with so many indie authors, how do you decide which new author to choose?

Hi Don. I usually read the book's short description first. If I find that interesting, then I read the first chapters through amazon's 'look inside' feature. If I like it I buy it.

I understand the part about reading the short descriptions, but how do you select from among the almost millions of short descriptions of indie books?

I check the top 100 free ebooks on amazon and start from there. If I like a book I then search the other author's books. I also receive daily notifications on facebook from certain pages that I follow such as the ereader1 US and the ereader cafe. There are always plenty of recommendations there. Other times I just spend time browsing amazon.
