That's right, our December Backlist of the Month is Nicholas Mosley's IMPOSSIBLE OBJECT. Feel free to drop your thoughts, update us with your progress, ask questions, and argue with each other in a civil, loving manner.

message 2: by Jim (new) - rated it 4 stars

Jim Read the first 35 pages last night. Very intense stuff!

I like the interstitial story between the chapters. Curious to see how the two elements interact throughout the book.

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) Thank you. I've been not reading Mosley since I found him in McElroy's library. I'm in, yes, and prepared.

MJ Nicholls (mjnicholls) | 9 comments An outstanding novel. A recent hit here on GR too.

You're welcome! Speaking of McElroy, you should read this interview: http://numerocinqmagazine.com/2013/12...

Yes. Indeed. Thank you. I'll have to find a better manner by which to sweep the internet, because I seemed to have missed this one despite my best (not very good) efforts.

Jonathan (nathandjoe) | 11 comments I will join in the chorus of love for this book - I do not understand why he is not more celebrated here in the UK (unless his father's shadow has something to do with it)

I am almost done but, alas, work calls!

Things I find striking: the emotions he's describing - love, sadness, loneliness - are the most basic of human emotions. Coupled with such simple (albeit wonderfully constructed) sentences make for a beautiful, eye-opening read. For me, it's like a Terrence Malick film. The story has been told before, but the way in which it's told (Malick's cinematography, Mosley's language) is why it's so extraordinary.

Hello everybody! Tomorrow on Facebook, I will be asking a trivia question about Impossible Object and the winner will receive our next Backlist of the Month, so please keep your eyes open.

On another note: writing the last chapter, The Sea, from the perspective of the woman was brilliant. I'd love to hear other opinions.

Yet another note: Happy (almost) New Year!
