Sarah | 18550 comments I'm in the same situation as you Laura - I've read Anansi Boys already!

message 102: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Oh yay, I'm not a misfit! :D (((((Sarah))))) it might be interesting to read it again straight after American Gods, but as in everything else, my mood will rule!

Do you remember much of it, Sarah?

message 103: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes I do - it was only a few months back. While some of the characters are the same in both books I think the story thread is not connected.

message 104: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Hmm. Ok. Some people told me years ago that AB would've made more sense had I read AG first. I enjoyed AB so much that I may wanna reread it anyhow.

Are you planning to listen to this, Sarah?

message 105: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Maybe the characters would make more sense as to why they do things perhaps but I don't think it would have changed how we understood the story. We shall have to wait and see what we think once we've read AG. I have it on my kindle.

message 106: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Yeah, I'll be curious. I hope this one makes me laugh as much as AB did! :)

message 107: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just finished my fourth chunkster The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch which was great. It seemed to take me for ages to read but I enjoyed it - the last 100 pages seemed to zip by!Looking forward to the follow up books. I'm going to have a rest from my chunksters this week and read other books ready to start with American Gods by Neil Gaiman next week for the buddy read.

message 108: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Glad you enjoyed it, Sarah! Looking forward to the buddy read! :D

message 109: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments Really glad you enjoyed it! Hope you enjoy American Gods too!! I'm lurking in the background of that buddy read, living vicariously through all of you.

message 110: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Have you already read it, Rusalka?

message 111: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19206 comments I have. It's one of my favourites.

message 112: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Oh yay! Cool beans.

message 113: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'm really looking forward to American Gods!

That's going on my tbr, with the bonus of it being part of a series for my challenge :)

message 115: by Travis (new)

Travis (travistousant) | 6011 comments The thing with bastard gentlemen is Locke and Jean are the only standard anything. Each book has a new style to the plot. The characters could be all new and they are always roaming so the setting is always different. Basically there is no real way to compare the books as they're each almost a stand alone novel yet beat to read in order due to the characters so as not to have book 3 give away something from book 2. Lynch has a style kind of all his own which isn't a bad thing. I rated the first 3 books 4,5,3 respectively

message 116: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments I'd definitely recommend it Lynn and I can't wait to read the next one - it looks really good being set at sea! I must get my review sorted for Locke Lamora.

message 117: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I'll probably read it for Mickey Mouse section if I ever get Slick finished.

message 118: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ok so I've swapped a book in Slick's (again) as I just bought The Golem and the Jinni on kindle and it's 819 pages (I know the paperback version is half that but as we're going on the edition we've read I might as well use it as a chunkster - looks like it's based on the large print edition).

message 119: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I looked at the paper version of Golem and the Jinni before I started reading it on Kindle. The paper version is not quite 500 pages (486 I think), but it is in such small print I did not think I could read it. Not without getting different glasses first, anyway. My Kindle says its 809 pages, and I am going with that.

message 120: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Kindles are wonderful what with being able to adjust the size of the font as well as the space between each line. Looking forward to this one!

message 121: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments So I was having a break from chunksters to read other books before the American Gods buddy read but I have decided to start The Golem and the Jinni for a buddy read so I will read that one this week and American Gods next week and that will sort out Slick's quicker than I'd thought!

message 122: by Sarah (last edited Mar 24, 2014 03:12AM) (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just finished my fourth chunkster The Golem and the Jinni which was fantastic. Such a lovely story. I still haven't reviewed it yet but will post my review once done.

Now I'm on to my last chunkster for Slick's with American Gods.

message 123: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments One more added to my ever growing wishlist (Golem and Jinni). I read American Gods a couple of years back and gave it 5 stars. I'll be following along on your group read, but likely won't participate since I don't remember it enough to discuss it.

message 124: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yes the wishlists never seem to get smaller and this challenge hasn't helped!

message 125: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Yay! Just finished American Gods which means I've completed Slick's Slugs section! Woohoo! I loved American Gods - 5 stars for me. I'll post my review soon. Now on to Mickey's Marchers!

message 126: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Congratulations on finishing Slick's Slugs, Sarah!

message 127: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks Cherie! I'm so pleased to reach the end of the first hurdle! I had some good reads too!

message 128: by Lisa (last edited Apr 07, 2014 10:43AM) (new)

Lisa (lisathebooklover) | 9244 comments Yay! Congrats Sarah! A 5 star read is a great way to finish the section :)

message 129: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Woohooo! I'm glad you finished Slick's Slugs. :)

message 130: by Marnie (new)

Marnie (marnie19) | 3259 comments Congratulations Sarah! I'm glad you enjoyed your Slick reads- have fun with Mickey!

message 131: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks Lisa and Janice.

message 132: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks Marnie. Our messages must have crossed! I am looking forward to Mickey now - I have some good books lined up.

message 133: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Woohoo! Congrats on finishing your first section Sarah!

message 134: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Thanks Peggy! I'm hoping I'll get through Mickey's a bit quicker than Slick's but we shall see!

message 135: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments I'm hoping the same for myself. I think my books in Mickey's are a bit easier to read, were higher on my wishlist, and there's no 1000-pager in there, so maybe just 3 months instead of 4 and a bit! ;-)

message 136: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Yay Peggy, way to go! Congratulations to you and enjoy your Mickey's list!

message 137: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Almost Laura! About 150 pages to go :)

message 138: by Laura (new)

Laura (apenandzen) | 3367 comments Haha, sorry Peggy, I've been working too many hours. :(

I meant to say way to go Sarah!

I hope we all meet our goals, whatever they may be. Sorry for my tired brain mixing up names!

message 139: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just started my first book of Mickey's Marchers - Kinslayer on audiobook which I am really excited about. I loved the first in the series, which I also listened to on audio, and this one has the same narrator.

message 140: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Enjoy, Sarah! I looked it up and it looks interesting. I've added the first book to my burgeoning wish list.

message 141: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Just starting Fingersmith - from one Waters book to another! This is my first print book for Mickey's but I'm also listening to an audio.

message 142: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Ok so I decided to start another chunkster - Dreams of Gods and Monsters so now I have three on the go - one audio, one kindle, one paperback! I think that's all bases covered!

message 143: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments Are you reading any of those for the toppler tomorrow?

message 144: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments no i have a shorter book planned for the toppler although I'm not sure which to go for yet.

message 145: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I have a short book for the toppler too, and if I get it finished, maybe I can get tackle some more of Affinity.

message 146: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Finished my first book for Mickey's - Dreams of Gods and Monsters which I thought was great - wrapped the series up nicely!

message 147: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments Started another chunkster The Help as it came in at the library on audio app so I've put Kinslayer on hold so that I can listen to The Help as I won't be able to renew that one as there are reservations. I'll return to Kinslayer once I'm done! So these two plus Fingersmith makes three chunksters on the go!

message 148: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments It takes three objects to juggle. :) I'm just waffling. I have two books on the go an one isn't a chunkster.

message 149: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 18550 comments True Janice. Actually I've switched out Fingersmith now. I still want to read at some point but going to leave the buddy read for now. I need to read something a fluffier for now I think! Still keeping with the three to juggle though by starting Allegiant

message 150: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59894 comments I understand. I'm going to need something like and fluffy after I finish the two I'm reading. The other book is a Pearl Buck book - Dragon Seed - about war and the inhumanities of it. I have Book 2 of Sookie Stackhouse on hold at the library, so maybe it will arrive in good timing.
