Written in 1st person, book is based in modern-day america, in one of the cities that have a lot of earthquakes. The heroine works as a bartender and meets the hero who is in a suit at the bar. I remember that the guy likes whiskey. Heroine receives a package from her father who has just died. I think as soon as the package is opened there is an earthquake. The package is meant to contain something that gives her power from her father. Later we find out that the hero was there to kill her and steal her power but ended up liking her so didn't. Does anyone remember this book? Oh, and her father's ghost ends up haunting her (in a-oh you should be a better daughter blah blah way not in a scary way). The heroine's name may or may not be Gabrielle. I have vague memories of a struggle in an office with the bad guy and I think the hero gets struck on the head. Heroine is good at fighting, some bad guys are trying to steal something (i think it is a manuscript that her father sent her). Hero is wealthy. I think they were in an alley beside the bar she works at when heroine finds out that he was initially there to steal her power by killing her. Second time they met was again at the bar during the day and he sits at one of the table so she has to come to him to take his order but she takes her time talking to the other customers before going to take his order. Heroine is half Asian, I think her dad might have been Asian. Heroine and her dad were estranged and her mother was dead. Help?

I r..."I haven't read it -yet, it's on my TRB list- so I don't recognize most of the details but your description made me think of
Marked by Passion by Kate Perry.

That's actually the only detail I really remembered about it aside from their being some sort of scroll as part of the plot.
