Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments Started this on the bus to work this morning. Interesting so far.

ETA: Read some more on my lunch hour. It's very easy to read and get into the story.

Nancy H | 1113 comments I really like this book. I read the first 5 chapters and it reminds me of a couple of other series: the Fremont Jones series by Dianne Day and the Charlaine Harris one with Harper Connelly, who can see dead people and know why they died. The Fremont Jones one is historical fiction without the paranormal stuff but the heroine is feisty and used to taking care of herself like Ophelia Wylde.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I'll have to check out the Fremont Jones series.

I'm about halfway through now and thoroughly enjoying it.

Nancy H | 1113 comments I finished this yesterday - it kept me turning the pages so fast that I read the rest of it all in one sitting. I liked it, and would not have picked it up on my own (thanks for the recommendation,Daffoldil), though, because I'm not a big fan of paranormal stuff. I like some things but some just get too wild, although this was okay. I did think that there was sort of an abrupt dive into the paranormal stuff near the end once they arrived at the ruins. That being said, though, it was a good book and I will read any sequels.

Daffodil (daffodil--ripcranberry) | 1058 comments I'm glad you enjoyed it. I finished late last night because I couldn't put it down.

I enjoy reading a lot of paranormals, but agree the extra woo-woo toward the end was a bit surprising. I would have been just as happy if the author hadn't intensified the supernatural aspects.

This is the first time I've ever heard of Max McCoy, but I can see why he is an accomplished western author. Dodge City and its residents came to life on the page.

I'm going to be on the lookout for more in this series, too.
