Great Veronica I'm glad to know you'll be joining us. I'm excited about this book I haven't read it yet.

I just added a video for the documentary Dark Girls . It will be interesting to compare the attitudes of today with the attitudes we read about in Wallace's book written 85 years ago. How far have we come?

A book on the subject that was read and discussed at my local bookclub that generated a lot of conversation was:
Don't Play in the Sun: One Woman's Journey Through the Color Complex by Marita Golden

That is what I love about HF is that its themes are universal and current. You'd be surprise how much you can understand about present day issues through history be it fiction or non-fiction.

I'm surprised I've never hear of it (as if I've read every book every, how arrogant of me). The title truly enticed me because I being a dark-skinned woman, I too have heard many variations of don't play in he sun. Naturally I clicked on the link and checked out the reviews (mostly positive) and then read an excerpt from Amazon. I definitely think that will be my next read. I would love to read something like that. I just hope it isn't one of those kind of colorism books where the author obviously suffers from a complex and think that all light-skinned women are evil! lol. In fact this has motivated me about a mini blog post in our folder "lets blog about it". Thanks for the link Beverly!

Kisha -
I think you will like this book as it also goes into a dialogue with light-skinned women, it is not a bitter book but you will nod your head and chuckle at some of the observations and overall I think this book helped for my book discussion group to have a more honest discussion.

That's super cool to have a connection to history. A great history as well. It's the most artistic movement ever and it kicked down the doors for many voices to be heard to this day. I love this era. It should be a holiday or acknowledged by a month (just not february lol)
