Carlos, I'm reading the Bible from the beginning too -- something I've never done before. I'm using the translation by Ronald Knox as a way of getting to know it better. I think it's so amazing that he translated the whole Bible himself. He also wrote an interesting book on the process of translating it called, On Englishing the Bible. (A copy of it was included in my purchase of the Knox translation from Baronius Press.)
I'm impressed by those of you who are systematic about what you are going to read this year. I'm pretty haphazard -- one book leads to the next. Eight books so far this year:My Sisters the Saints: A Spiritual Memoir
To Marry an English Lord: Or How Anglomania Really Got Started
Hitty, Her First Hundred Years
Mary Poppins Opens the Door
Save Send Delete
Mary Poppins in the Park
An Episode of Sparrows
Black Narcissus
Right now I'm reading Cruel Beauty which is a YA fantasy which is being marketed as a Beauty & the Beast retelling but reminds me more of Cupid & Psyche.
Yes, the Navarre Bible has excellent commentaries. A warning on the Knox: there are no commentaries included. The only footnotes are about his translating choices.
I'm really just figuring my way around. Is there s specific challenge for 2014, or it it our personal challenge?
MY GOAL IS 24 BOOKS. So far I have read:Thomas Aquinas in 50 pages. A layman's guide to Thomism Dr. Taylor Marshall
Ordinary Lives, Extraordinary Mission John Wood
Life's Greatest Lesson Allen R. Hunt
Mustard Seeds Matthew Kelly
Started just recently, hopefully I will still read 50 books this year, I'm only at 6 right now though. Books read so far: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
List of books from which I will read most of the books from: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Wish me luck in catching up here!
Carlos wrote: "Personal."As a personal challenge for those interested in Catholic literature and Catholicism in general, I recommend this audio interview of Paul Elie.
