You mean like gang wars and drive-by shootings?

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments What kind, Jackie? This is important. Donut variations consume a lot of my time. I'm serious.

Coffee Frape', double shot, no whip.

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments Poppy's are yummy, just down the street. Always to late for the chocolate icing filled. I must admit if you give me a Krispy Kreme, I weep openly with joy.

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments ok, i have to admit this. back when i used to eat donuts i would get downright giddy if i opened a box of mixed donuts and found a rogue apple fritter nestled among the glazed and cream filled ones

Sarah | 13814 comments I really want to try one of these. I've spend the last few years pretending this place wasn't up the road from me. I never buy doughnuts...

Michelle (luvrdn) | 501 comments were you schooled in the art of torture???

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I am against sprinkles on doughnuts. They don't taste that good, I'm sure they're nothing but corn starch and questionable food coloring, and they fall all over the place and make a mess.

message 71: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments What about mini chocolate chips and mint glaze?
Keep talking me down, Jackie.

message 72: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments My absolute favorite doughnuts are fresh apple cider doughnuts at the orchard just outside of the city. If those aren't available, I'm for Bavarian Cream, despite the mess (that's the chocolate glaze with custard inside, right?)
But that Fractured Prune menu just intrigues me.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I'm defenseless against the mini chocolate chips and mint glaze, Sarah Pi...

We went to a sweet donut shop in San Fran while visiting in March. I had something with lavender, I recall.

I made delish applesauce ones recently. Wonder if I could chop up some fresh and put them in there?

My favorite Sunday morning donut treat is raised glazed with strawberry icing. Sprinkles are fine but not required.

message 77: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments Lavender as an ingredient intrigues me, but I haven't yet used it or tasted any of the crazy lavender-infused foods I've seen mentioned. We made awesome basil limeade from scratch the other day. I highly recommend that.

Nice.

I have a TON of fresh dill and parsely from my CSA. Any ideas? I was thinking of roasting some new potatoes.

Where'd she go?

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments She went to New Paltz, Sally. Which I assume is more fun than Old Paltz?

message 86: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) I saw Jethro Tull at New Paltz in 1969. Got in free, too.

And there is no Old Paltz, Jackie. Just Paltz. No ... I don't know where that is/was.

Oh yeah! She's in coastal New York, in the bungalows! I recall!

message 88: by Félix (new)

Félix (habitseven) Bungalow Bill.

New Paltz ain't exactly coastal. It's in the Hudson River School of Art, though.

message 89: by Matthieu (new)

Matthieu | 1009 comments New Paltz is a lovely town. My dad's friend is the dean of the College of Liberal Arts at SUNY New Paltz.

Did Donna get official TC permission for said vacation? And where did she go?

Let the speculation begin...

OMG. When you go to Le Pain Quotidien for a takeout coffee - which I made the mistake of doing once - they have to add the milk for you because they do not have any milk or other additives sitting out. The guy didn't even ask me how much milk I wanted, he just poured in fucking half a cup and my coffee was the color of this nail polish:

Which was irritating because their coffee is actually good, if you can get it NORMAL STRENGTH.

Sarah | 13814 comments Lobstergirl wrote: "Also someday I am going to count the number of donut/doughnut threads Sarah Pi has started. Someday."

Did I start this one? In my defense, I almost never eat doughnuts, so if I started this one too, it was probably on a day that somebody brought me a doughnut and they were on my mind and I thought it would make a good thread.
Maybe I should check with the group historians before starting a thread.

message 98: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 13814 comments But actually, looking at the top of the thread, I didn't start a thread about doughnuts. I started a thread about coffee. Someone else brought it round to doughnuts (round to- get it?) and renamed it.

message 99: by Chris (new)

Chris (bibliophile85) I like to drink, as Denis Leary said "coffee flavored coffee" Starbucks to me is not coffee, it is warm milkshakes. When I drink coffee, I brew my own (the brand I usually have on hand is Yuban) and I drink with just a dash of Baily's Irish coffee creamer.

As for doughnuts and coffee, I usually grab something raspberry filled or plain (the better for dunking)

message 100: by Riona (new)

Riona (rionafaith) | 488 comments I love coffee, but I don't need it to function. (Well, sometimes...) Always with milk or cream, sometimes I add sugar or splenda depending on my mood--if I'm just drinking coffee alone (and especially if it's not great coffee) I'll often sweeten it, but if I'm having dessert I like my coffee unsweetened.

I'm not a huge fan of Starbucks coffee but I seem to always end up there because they're so damn ubiquitous. I do like their fancy/sweet drinks though. I love their salted caramel mocha, but I only let myself have one as a rare treat because I'm sure they're about a million calories.

I can't do black coffee; it makes my stomach hurt.
