For his solo debut, ex-McCoy Rick Derringer comes on like a heavy metal David Cassidy, all blow-dried hair and skin-tight flares, the ultimate teen idol, a proto-Owen Wilson in glam threads.

Unlike anything else in Lou's catalog, this album is one mind-altering necessity of life. Steve Hunter and Dick Wagner's geetars reverberate with the sound of a bar being raised.

You know RA, I've never been much of a Patti Smith fan outside of her cover of "Gloria." "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine..." That line alone made me want to go to confession.
I once saw her perusing the lunch meat section at a Farmer Jack store on the east side back in the 80's when she was living in St. Clair Shores (suburb of Detroit), but stopped short of actually talking to her.

What was I thinking???"
Please tell me you put that on the shebang. please, please, please.
However, I won't know until the lazy Fort Collins mail lady gets around to delivering mine next year.

Do you want a copy?
I found my I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing (and other happy quasi-hippy tunes) album COVER in my mom's basement the other day, sans LP. I shed a tear.

Man, I hate this. Vic Chesnutt is an American treasure.
Sadly, Vic Chesnutt did die. He overdosed on muscle relaxants and fell into a coma before dying.
I wasn't a big fan of his, but I dug his music, and admired the hell out of him for carrying on despite his handicap. It takes a lot of courage to keep carrying on and pursuing your craft despite your physical limitations. At least he's not suffering anymore.

Interesting. I'm even digging the album cover for the "Turkish Jimi Hendrix."
Any thoughts on what you've heard so far, KD?

I'm listening to Behind Enemy Lines...one could teach politics by playing their songs. What an amazing band!

4. Shellshock-New Order
5. Here We Go Again-Justin Townes Earle

Listened to this great bootleg of a Who concert from 1973, Tales From The Who.

Recorded live at the Philadelphia Spectrum on December 4th, 1973, it's a must-own bootleg of the band. I'm sure Clark's got this one, and if he doesn't, tsk tsk!

Got it on vinyl. No surprise there, eh? They were touring behind "Quadrophenia" for the first time and plagued by cock-ups with the back-up tapes. Not here, though.
Peformance: 9.0
Sound Quality: Far from an audiophile experience.

Another good one. Studio and live rarities, "rare" being a relative term now but not at its time of release (mid 70's). Cool cover, though.

My good friend Pete used to torture me with "Wonderwall." And every other Beatles album ever foisted on a gullible and unsuspecting public. I returned the favor with this:

Finally, they nail it. Eight tracks of juddering, rollicking, feelgood rock, capped by my favorite Quo song, album closer "Forty Five Hundred Times." Makes you wanna jump out of your chair and pose back-to-back with the lamp stand.

Exciting stuff, a party record no Saturday night should be without. Johnny Thunders and Walter Lure were, quite simply, the most menacing and insane guitar tandem back in the late 70's despite being so high they had to call NASA to find their heads.

Nothing embarassing about #3, but I'm old. Proceed with caution.
