BUDDY READ: Dystopian/Sci-Fi
>
Divergent (Divergent #1) by Veronica Roth -- Restarting May 6th 2025
So... I might have been a little impatient when it came to reading this book.Once I started it, I just couldn't stop. I loved every moment of it, I often found in parts of the book that I was cheering or crying or laughing or just making some random audible sound effects to go along with what was happening.
Definitely a great read, I am now moving on to the next book, but I hope you guys enjoy reading this as much as I did.
Waaaah!!! Haha. I'll start reading this tomorrow. I hope to enjoy it as well Tash!@Maddison, no, there will be no set amount of chapters per day (for me, that is) :D. We can read as much or as little as we want per day. ^^
Opps I totally forgot I was doing this :/ I finished it, and really liked it. I cant wait to read for Insurgent :)
Is this buddy read still going ahead? I'm not pressuring you or anything, I'm just trying to keep the groups bookshelf up to date so that people can easily see which buddy reads are currently happening ☺
I'm still up for it, I can try and ask Megan if you want. Maybe she just hasn't had time, like me :)
Hmm, not sure, I'm kind of juggling books and school right now :) How many were you thinking of? I'll see if I can keep up :)
I'm not an extremely fast reader myself, and I'm also busy with work and school so maybe forty pages? If not I'm okay with reading more or less. Maybe we could start off slow and since it's supposed to be very fast paced we can do from there?
Chapter 5.So I've been reading a lot of books that have disappointed me, however, I'm really enjoying this one! Beatrice is turning out to be a great character :) (view spoiler)

I can't stop reading! I'm like 85% and (view spoiler) But I can't stand anymore and I have to sleep, unfortunately, waking very early in the morning and will be regretting this very late reading...oh who am I kidding, it was worth it! (view spoiler)
I'm glad you guys like it so much, I'm about fifty percent and agree it is very fast paced. I really enjoy the world and find the different factions very interesting. However it bothers me to some degree that the world building is a bit sketchy and unrealistic. Oddly enough I don't enjoy Beatrice or Four all that much, but I do enjoy the supporting ensemble who all have distinct voices in my opinion. Still very original.
I really like the secondary characters. Sometimes an author only focus on the main characters and that's really depressing.I'm going to go finish the book now, I hope :)
Done! (view spoiler)Overall, I really liked this book! The writing was good, the pace was balanced, the characters were great :)
I just finished, and WOW. I was so amazed at how the climax was built up, and I was definitely on the edge of my seat the whole time. I was also so surprised about the revelations on Tris's mom, I wasn't really fond of her but that brought her to a whole new light. There's so many ways Roth can take this trilogy I'm excited to read the next book and see what other surprises emerge (I do hope it doesn't entirely change coarse like the Matched trilogy did for it's last book). Overall it was a great length, very explosive, and I enjoyed the fight scenes.
@Sarah I'm going to read this with a friend starting today. Would you mind changing the date for us? ^-^
@15%Honestly, Dystopian books are not high on my favorites list and the only reason I wanted to read this is because the trailer of the movie looked pretty cool. It's very interesting though. I think I might be having a change of heart on the whole genre.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are--and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, Tris also learns that her secret might help her save the ones she loves . . . or it might destroy her.
