Probably because of the ARCs. But I'm with you there. I wish ratings are blocked before the pub date. It's kind of unfair rating a book you never read before. Sometimes the ratings are even very low and that's unfair to the authors. Maybe they can block the ratings first but leave the reviews open for comments and ARC reviews.and btw, you got the wrong group to post. You should post this thread here
Everyone uses ratings differently. Some only rate books they've read. Some rate based on enthusiasm for a new release. Some rate to prioritize. Some have advanced copies and the publisher/author WANTS those ratings out asap to generate publicity. GR won't disallow users from rating before publication because there are no rules for rating.
