seriously considering: leaving my daughters wedding (June 27th) on my motorcycle while wearing my tux.
That sounds wonderful. I'm already trying to scheme to get to Nashville to see OCMS and Justin Townes Earle in August, though, and I think I can probably only sell one kidney.
Isn't Winnipeg, um, kind of a long drive from Baltimore, Sarah? How would you get there?Kevin...I want footage.
I'm not seriously considering anything at the moment. I'm casually considering watching another Burn Notice episode, but I think I'll read instead.
RA, there are these marvelous flying contraptions that I've seen around lately. One of them will deliver me from Baltimore to Winnipeg in a few hours, if I give it enough money. Or, for the cheaper option, Bmore to Grand Forks, I've been told.
Hm. I didn't know these flying contraptions reached Baltimore:) And even Winnipeg? Do they have plumbing yet?I picture Winnipeg as 30 below all year round.
When my father first moved out there, he told us that you had to make sure to blink more often in the winter, to make sure your eyelids don't freeze in one position. Also, everybody has block heaters they plug into their cars at night.
Summer isn't too bad, though. All two weeks of it.
(And there are definite problems with flying to a festival, like trying to fit camping gear AND a lesser guitar into my baggage limit.)
The reason why outdoor folk festivals are so mellow is because everyone is stoned. Peace and love man! Who has the energy to be rowdy, unless you were foolish enough to come unprepared without munchie supplies. :D
Free tickets for the Free Virgin Mobile fest in Columbia, MD go on sale tomorrow morning. Acts include St. Vincent, Weezer, the Hold Steady, the National, Blink-182, Public Enemy. And it's not going to be in the broiling sun of Pimlico this year - Merriweather Post Pavillion is shady and green.
Oh, and anyone in NYC between Sunday and Tuesday should seriously consider dropping everything and attending the Fancy Food Show at Javits...I went in 2006 and it was HEAVEN. Ten city blocks of free samples of dark chocolates and fancy sauces and breads and olive oils and olives and cheeses. You can eat for the whole weekend for $35.
Sarah, I'd go. Plus, I hear Winnipeg's actually a pretty cool town. Cool as in "there's cool shit goin' down here, yo!", not "damn, there's only 2 seasons up here in Canuckville - July and winter."
My experiences of Winnipeg have not been positive. They show you "The Forks"
and then they take you home. Then other people ask if you've seen The Forks. Seriously, everyone asks.
OK, the hamam was cool:

It's like being your own Mongolian Barbecue, while dressed in a tea towel.
did not leave the wedding on my motorcycle. decided to not draw any attention away from the beautiful bride and her day. i know, i am a softie
I'm seriously considering getting tickets for Andrew Bird and St. Vincent playing together in October...they're playing all over the country together, by the way...

Lineup includes
Neko Case
Elvis Costello
Okkervil River
Josh Ritter
Iron & Wine
Vance Gilbert
Arlo Guthrie
Folk festivals are nothing like rock festivals - more relaxed vibe, fewer meatheads, more late night jams. You don't usually have the rock festival problems of too many stages, not being able to get close. The artists tend to hang out in the crowd.
I want to go.
Sigh.
