I just posted my list on my fridge so I have to see it all the time to remind me to READ them!! I also got the books on the list that I own and put them in a pile where I have to see them frequently. Now let's see if I can get the list done by December...
:)
Thanks Tien and Lynn. This challenge has really helped me get to some of the older books on my TBR that were languishing. I've still got 43 on the list from 2011 when I first joined GR and was adding books like crazy. I've learned to restrain myself somewhat :0)

Just like you, Lauren, I joined GR in late 2008 (October, I think) and I've still got 30 books that I've added in 2008 - 6 of these are on my LOST list this year. 3 more years to go before I reach my 2009 added books :p

Just realized I still haven't posted my list, and it was still short. AND that I must have misread and am definitely over-reaching. My target was 50!!

7 down, 1 to go (2 abandoned!). I just can't read Anna Karenina - I feel like I'm watching the destruction of someone in slow motion. I don't like any of the alive characters in the Count of Monte Cristo and the revenge theme got me down. Has anyone read these books? Do you agree? Should I persevere? Thanks :)

I don't feel like either of those books are feel-good types, for sure. Pretty depressing stuff.
Both are tough books, Grace!
The only reason I got through Anna Karenina was because it was a read-along so I was pushed through it despite being really annoyed at Anna and many other characters. Oh, and also an interest if what happened to Kitty (rather than Anna)...
Have you seen the movie for Count of Monte Cristo? I kept having images of Guy Pearce throughout and I think, it's because I knew the ending that I kinda persevered through it all. Probably the only Dumas I'll ever have read in full (gave up on 3 Musketeers despite loving the movie but then again that movie is Disney! *gasp*)

Thanks for your replies Adrianne and Tien. I haven't seen either of the movies and only know what I've absorbed somehow. I just feel like both books are heading for increasing difficulties. I loved War and Peace even though one character or an other were always making stupid decisions, so I thought I'd like Anna. Maybe I'll save them both for another time when I'm feeling braver! Or watch the movies first so that I don't get so caught up in the drama.
It's been a while since I worked on this list. I just finished #5 of my 10,
, A Sense of the World: How a Blind Man Became History's Greatest Traveler.

oh, Lynn, I have a copy of that book too! Had it for about 4 years now and it's only collecting dust on my shelf, I think... actually, come to think of it, I'm not sure where it is! lol
What do you think of it? Should I be digging this out ;)

I found his story very interesting and enjoyed it. The writing wasn't the greatest, but to "see" the world as this explorer did in the early 1800's was amazing. It's not a 5 star read for me, but I think it's worth reading anyway.
Finally got one more read: Impact, finished 8/10. My Mt TBR and Lost books don't seem to play well with Scattershelves -- I seem to have chosen a number of books that don't have a lot of people reading and shelving them, even when I think they'd fit the categories. But at least this one did.
Hmm... That's 9 books out of 27. Not likely to make the goal this year unless things change quickly.

Ah, Susan, I don't seem to be making much progress with Mt TBR either (last year and this year, lol) but at least, it's still a handful of books off the TBR ;)
Only 6/10 of LOST so far so I've got time, I think, to finish LOST this year... hankering to start my LOST list for next year already, ha ha ha

Oh good, Moving Mountains and Lost is yearly ? I would love to be able to start challenges at the beginning of a year and follow them through properly! ;)

yes, they are, Amanda
LOST is usually the same but I've varied the way Moving Mountains work from year to year so far :)

Oooh, can't even think about these. My LOST list is halfway done, but Moving Mountains ... well, I have to get going on that one. Not doing well with these this year. I haven't been able to get them on my Scattershelves (current book excepted), which is taking all my time!
Finished the 6th on my list!
by Gail TsukiyamaA sad story in many ways of someone living with a rare disease, but I really enjoyed it. And it did not end with their death (which is what I had fully expected from this kind of book)!
I think I am going to sit down today and make my Lost list for next year, LOL.I don't know how far I will get this year, because I am over-stretching myself, so I think for next year I will give myself 1 book a month to read, which I think is more than reasonable.

I know what you mean. I gave myself less than one book a month to read, and I am failing miserably.
I always have such great reading plans at the beginning of the year but for some reason I always deviate - too many new and shiny :0)
I have been doing LOST for 4 years! I still have 2 books from 2011, 3 books from 2012, 6 books from 2013, and 8 books from this year to complete. That means I have a total of 19 books out of 37 on my 4 years of lists to complete.
One book, Les Miserables (over 1000 pages), has been a start and go book for all those years. My goal is to complete it this year. One from last year is currently being read. So only 17 more to get too!

lol, Bea. you've just gotta bite the bullet and knuckle down to finish it. It's the only way you're going to get it done ;)

I only have about 300 pages to go, Tien. But, now that I own it as an ebook, I seem to be less motivated. Borrowing it as a library book at least gave me a date to read by.

Bea, i'm in the same boat with Gone with the Wind. Haven't picked it up in months as so many other books keep turning up, and the weight in my hand as I hold it is just uncomfortable. Perhaps i should just Kindle it ...
I've just read 2 more within the last week (finished one this morning) so that's 8 of 10, woohoo, 2 more and I'll complete LOST this year :)
As it happened, I owned both books so I can reach for them anytime -the question is when, ha ha ha. I really want to finish this challenge though, before bub!

I just realized I didn't post The Railway Detective, which I finished 8/26. That's still only 10 out of 27, but every book completed is one more checked off.
Sooo... I managed to complete LOST this year, woot!
I was reading the last book trying to distract myself from contractions and finished it just before it got really bad, ha ha ha... it's probably not a book I'll ever revisit ever again!

Well done, Tien! I'm sure that the baby is much greater achievement than completing the challenge though :0)
OMG Tien! That's crazy! Congrats are in order for both! :) I think I will join this thread in 2015. I have WAAY too many books on my shelf as it is and I challenged myself to 150 books this year anyways. So yea. Next year it is!
LOL - I was awake all night whilst everyone else was asleep so I figured reading is a better distraction than anything else ;p

Woot, Bea! Did you do a little dance when you finished Les Mis? Big achievement :D

lostforgotten challenge for me ;pThe 10 books in 12 months really doesn't make you rush things, does it? lol - definitely lax on this front.
