Yes, Rebecca. We are trying to work our way through our endless stacks of books to be read. Please join us :-)

Melissa Ok, I can do this... only ten books, right? over the whole year???? (I know, only 11 months to go...)

These date back to 2009-2010, though I've been on GR since 2008. Every so often I go back through my TBR to weed out the ones that are no longer interesting to me. If they are still on my list after 5 years, then I guess I probably should read them already!

1. Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
2. The Demon's Librarian
3. The Preservationist
4. The Bookman's Wake
5. The Angel's Game
6. The Man Who Loved Books Too Much: The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession
7. Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue: The Untold Story of English
8. Special Topics in Calamity Physics
9. Speak
10. I Capture the Castle

I may end up having to make some substitutions... some of these I have never gotten around to for not being able to find them.

Don't worry, Melissa, some of us still leave it til the last 2-3 months of the year before trying hard to smash our 10 and some of the time, it doesn't happen, ha ha ha, it's all about trying though :)

oh, well done on completing A Suitable Boy, Coralie! That one was a brick! What did think?

I am almost always disappointed by Austen spinoffs. I keep saying to myself, "that was awful - no more!" and then I let myself get talked into another. Thanks for the warning - I will be strong and resist Captain Wentworth.

Uh-oh...

whilst we're on the topic of Persuasion spin-off, I have to say I totally loved For Darkness Shows the Stars -it's YA dystopia/sci-fi but such feels, it's just beautiful! *gushes*

Ashleigh (ashleighbailey) | 23 comments Started my first LOST book today, Shine Light by Marianne de Pierres.

I have had this on request from the library for about 2 months (was in position 4). Picked it up from the library last week and started reading today on the train to work. I have forgotten a little bit because I read the other two books in the series in 2012.

message 65: by Grace (new)

Grace (jetzin) Hi,
I'm new to Goodreads so these are the 10 books that I've had the longest on my physical bookshelves - some go a few years back.

1 The Count of Monte Cristo
2 Faust: First Part
3 Anna Karenina
4 The Hours
5 Mrs. Dalloway
6 A Short History of Nearly Everything
7 A Moveable Feast
8 Everything Beautiful Began After
9 Hamlet
10 Othello

Three are really plays but I've attempted to read them over the years and I really would like to actually finish them!

Okay, so I am taking The Preservationist off the list. I downloaded a sample and couldn't even get through it. Nothing likeable about any of the characters. So in it's place I'm moving up the next book on my list, so my revised list will be:

1. Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch
2. The Demon's Librarian
3. The Bookman's Wake
4. The Angel's Game
5. The Man Who Loved Books Too Much: The True Story of a Thief, a Detective, and a World of Literary Obsession
6. Our Magnificent Bastard Tongue: The Untold Story of English

8. Speak
9. I Capture the Castle
10. The Rosewood Casket

5 out of 27 done so far.

message 79: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I finished Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. I did not care for it much and really had to force myself through it. Not sure if I was just not in the mood for that kind of book or not. Disappointing.

Ramsha | 5 comments Hello there! I'm new to this group and I thought I'd start with a few challenges... Am I glad or what! I joined in in 2012, and my TBR for 2012 is so very long. It's a good thing I can start checking off some books by participating here. These are the first ten books I added to my list:

1. Pride and Prejudice
2. To Kill a Mockingbird
3. The Great Gatsby
4. The Catcher in the Rye
5. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
6. Les Misérables
7. The Road
8. The Tales of Beedle the Bard
9. The Subtle Knife
10.Knife Edge

Melissa It occurs to me that I am a bit behind in posting... I have finished Special Topics in Calamity Physics and I Capture the Castle, both of which I really enjoyed. Both are sort of coming of age books; both could easily have gone very angst-y but I did not find them so. I was sorry to have waited so long to read either one.

I got to two more in April, putting me at a total of 8 of 27. Not exactly on track, but at least accomplishing some.

The Queen's Man (Justin de Quincy, #1) - finished 4/12
Mortal Fear - finished 4/18

finished 8/27

message 85: by Jennivie (new)

Jennivie | 11 comments Finished The Invisible Bridge in the nick of time, which was for both the April shelf and for the Lost book shelf. I acquired at least 2 of my Lost books last week when a friend sent me home with more books than I have in my entire house!

I had hoped to finish the 10 by mid-summer and be really proud of myself, but I think getting all 10 done by the end of the year will be sufficient :)

I wish I was as far along on this as you are! Think I had better pull out those books on my LOST list and put them where I trip over them. There always seems to be something else new to read, though ... and I just spent some time in Portland (Oregon) at Powell's (which is a very huge new/used Indie bookstore) and bought a bunch more :)

message 94: by Tien (new)

Tien (tiensblurb) | 9035 comments Mod
lol - I find that when I first started buying (reason: to spoil myself on my birthday -early June), I haven't seem to stop, ha ha ha... so I've acquired a few too this month!

I've abandoned the first LOST book even without opening it (it was a second book in a trilogy and I couldn't muster the interest in re-reading the first one) and now, I'm just about 1/3 of the way of my second LOST book (though officially my first as I deleted the other one).
