A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens

After eighteen years as a political prisoner in the Bastille, the ageing Doctor Manette is finally released and reunited with his daughter in England. There the lives of two very different men, Charles Darnay, an exiled French aristocrat, and Sydney Carton, a disreputable but brilliant English lawyer, become enmeshed through their love for Lucie Manette. From the tranquil roads of London, they are drawn against their will to the vengeful, bloodstained streets of Paris at the height of the Reign of Terror, and they soon fall under the lethal shadow of La Guillotine.

I'm enjoying this so far, though it's taking me a little bit to get through. I love the way Charles Dickens describes things, to the point where I'm dissapointed when dialogue comes along because it's not as poetic to me (hide spoiler)]

However, this is definately the first book where I was rooting for both characters to be with Lucie. Whichever one she was with at the time was the one I wanted her to be with, and that's not something that happens very often. I still love the way Charles Dickens writes. (hide spoiler)]

Finished! I really enjoyed this.
(view spoiler)[That ending, with Sydney Carton's death completely tore me apart. The entire novel was so beautifully written. I cannot imagine living through something like that. Definitely a thought provoking read. (hide spoiler)]

Just like the beginning. "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times,". I didn't know this book held the famous quotes.

Epilogue.. So this book did not sa epilogue but Sydney gave us a glimpse of it. I'm glad to know he was honored.

As much as I loved this book I have to agree with you there. It became a little monotone in the few first chapters but it does pick up.
