message 351: by April (new)

April | 7 comments Oh, I would so love to come, but between having surgery in June and beginning the process of building a new house, I won't be able to join you no matter where you meet unless it's at my house!

message 352: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Glad to hear that about Wolf Hall, Miriam. I still wonder what the big deal is, and wonder why I don't get it.

And, while I have no problem including other reader friends in our potential get-together, a larger number of people turns it into a party, rather than just hanging out. Perhaps Lisa could weigh in, she's hosted a few of those. At present, I am not really equipped to host a party. Please don't misunderstand me, I love a party and would attend it. I just think it's different than what we've been talking about.

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments April, sounds like you have your hands full lately. Hope your surgery isn't too serious and you're feeling ok.

message 354: by Luann (new)

Luann Ritsema (luannr) | 35 comments I'm going to be awful and say I'd like to keep it to this smaller particular group. Not that I'm trying to be exclusive but .... I guess I am. Now if y'all want to open it up that's cool. But my original interest was more focused on this group here.

I really have nothing against anyone else---just selfishly wanted to keep it smaller. That sounded more intimate and silly and fun.

message 355: by Luann (new)

Luann Ritsema (luannr) | 35 comments Plus then we'd have to include boys. Which is fun too but different.

message 356: by Kat (new)

Kat Warren | 50 comments I'd like to hang out in a smaller group, too. I don't need to go on expeditions or be entertained other than y'all. And, I'll do wintry climes if that works.

Miriam | 60 comments Nancy wrote: "Glad to hear that about Wolf Hall, Miriam. I still wonder what the big deal is, and wonder why I don't get it.

Goodreads occasionally pops me to the beginning of the thread, and I, despite years of posting to forums, didn't notice and replied to a post you made in 2010. (clueless, I am)

I'm very happy to get together with the smaller group, I'd prefer a smaller group too, I just naturally tend towards inclusion . . .

April, I'm sorry to hear about the surgery.

So? Is the general consensus for Nancy's? Lauren, who suggested the idea, hasn't posted recently.

(Kat, the feeling is mutual)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments My house is available. I do recall, however, that Lisa and someone else favored Western MA for traveling convenience. We could explore that, and those who want to come via Boston can still come to my house and we could drive together. Perhaps I should move this discussion to a group Facebook message. I also want to say that if any of our old RV pals have been lurking and are pining to join us, just email or message one of us. There is no intention to exclude anyone specifically, just to have a small warm get together.

Look for a FB message later tonight or tomorrow. If you don't get one by tomorrow (tues) night, let me know.

message 359: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Sorry, gals. Just realized that some of you aren't on Facebook. I'll figure something out.

I agree. I sounded like a big snob in my other post -- unintended!

No, you didn't. I was trying to find a way to say what you said, and you said it well.

I'm going to try and send a group email through Goodreads.

message 362: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 64 comments Alas, alot of my travel is related to college visits this year but I will try to make this work. My foks are in Boston so that will make it easier.

message 363: by Sue (new)

Sue Russell | 10 comments What's happening? Did I miss something?

message 364: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 64 comments Sue, we are trying to get together. Nancy, can you add Sue Ruseell to the list.

message 365: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Yes, indeed.

message 366: by Sue (new)

Sue Russell | 10 comments Keep me posted. I would love to join you if at all possible.

message 367: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Sue, check your Goodreads messages. N

message 368: by Sue (new)

Sue Russell | 10 comments After 1st of the year would be best for me. I checked my Goodreads inbox and didn't see any new messages, Nancy. Did you just mean this thread?

message 369: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Check your Goodreads messages again. I might have messed up the first time.

message 370: by April (new)

April | 7 comments Nancy, thanks. My surgery isn't until June, but it's going to take some recuperation time.

Kat Warren | 50 comments Oh so demalicious, thankee, Nancy.

message 373: by Carol (new)

Carol | 3 comments I am enjoying John Steibeck's "East of Eden." I haven't read any Steinbeck since college. Loving it.

message 374: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Looking for my next book . . . . . hellllllooo?

message 375: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisapeet) | 60 comments Candidates?

message 376: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Oh, yes! Hi Lisa. I pretty much settled--I think-- on The UnAmericans - Mollie Antopol, recommended by LaurenB. I can't read anything after finishing Just Kids. It took me ages to get to it, but now I'm still bathing in the glow of Patti Smith and living at the Chelsea Hotel and I'm resistant to leaving.

message 377: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments There's lots of "big" books I want to read: the K Atkinson, D Tartt, Flamethrowers--there's a ton of them. But lately I require a smaller book and a more uncomplicated trail.

message 378: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisapeet) | 60 comments The Antopol sounds good. Let me know what you think when you're done. (I think you'd like The Flamethrowers when you're in the mood for a bigger book... it never quite goes anywhere but the trip is fun.

message 379: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments Thanks, Lisa. Happy Year of the Horse.

message 380: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisapeet) | 60 comments You too, darlin'. Hope to see you soon.

message 381: by Carol (new)

Carol | 3 comments I am reading a Stanley Olson biography of John Singer Sargent, Wolf Hall (finally, after three trys), and have just finished East of Eden. I picked the Steinbeck up in hard copy, a centennial edition with a beautiful etching on the cover and scored pages which signal--CLASSIC. It is a good read, though dated in its prose and story line, of course.

message 382: by Mwolff (new)

Mwolff | 1 comments Richard Ellmann's biography of Oscar Wilde; inspiring, humbling, and beautifully written.

message 383: by David (new)

David Abrams (davidabrams) | 7 comments In keeping with the biographies thread, I'm reading Victoria Wilson's new biography of Barbara Stanwyck. And re-watching some Stanwyck movies on the side.

message 384: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Sirvent (nancyess) | 126 comments The book and the movies sound like great winter activites, David.
